Anime of the day: Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Released: 2007
I would argue that this is my favorite Gundam, it was also kind of my first Gundam so it’s weirdly special to me. I remember watching this on like Syfy or something and it was always on at the weirdest time but I always managed to watch it. The basic idea is that society sucks and this group called “Celestial Being” wants to change the world. To do this they use Gundams. The characters are nice because they aren’t cookie cutter and they all have their own opinions on things. Plus it’s not a straight up war. Celestial Being will pick a fight with anyone who uses weapons. I mean they are like the total opposite of Switzerland. This concept is really an interesting premus to watch play out. I did find parts of season two to be a little more confusing that I originally expected. I also haven’t decided on my feelings toward the movies yet, but I guess I’ll get there.
There are quite a few openings and endings to this anime. I guess I’ll cover the ones I like. "DAYBREAK'S BELL" by L'arc~en~Ciel is the original so it’s an instead classic. “罠" by The Back Horn is the original ending, it’s pretty alright. "Ash Like Snow" by the brilliant green is the second opening, it’s decent. I didn’t like the second ending ("Friends" by Stephanie ). It wasn't bad, it was just meh. I feel like the second season is where the music really kicks it up a notch. "Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi" by UVERworld is my personal favorite (it’s easier to find it by artist than song). I love this opening. It’s fire. "Namida no Mukou" by Stereopony is the second season's second opening. It’s good, but not as fire as UVERworld’s. "Prototype" by Chiaki Ishikawa is probably my favorite ending of this anime. I really used to hate this ending, because it would sneak up on me while watching, but I ended up loving it. "Trust You" by Yuna Ito is probably the weakest of the whole lot. I totally forgot how many openings and endings this anime had. Weird.
