Grey skies over Chicago. . One of my favourite shots that I got during my trip there. As many of you know I do no editing or filtering to any of my photos, preferring to let the camera capture the moment in its purity without any alteration. Often times the correct lighting is hard to get, which forces me to specifically go out at certain times of day and at different locations depending on the weather, as most photographers do. But in my case, I have one chance to get a "perfect" shot, and most of the time my photos end up in the recycling bin of my computer. Though previously my "success rate" for getting a shot I could be really proud of was about 1/10, I have been slowly able to increase this percentage as I take more and more consideration into each shot I take. This makes the photography itself much more engaging and fulfilling, and the later process of going through my photographs much more rewarding. Though I initially was going to scrap this photo due to its darkness, upon gazing upon it for a few more moments I was able to catch an astounding interplay of colours, shadows, and reflections in a shot which initially doesn't really catch the eye. I generally find that my favourite shots and the ones that I'm most proud of take these extra moments of reflection, observation, and investigation to really appreciate the full scale of the beauty in this particular form of art.
