He was looking at you, hand outstretched, balls of his feet ticking back and forth in some attempt to keep his excitement at bay. "For you." He said simply, pushing what was in his hands to your own hands before you were really ready. You scrambled for a moment, grasping at it and finding it to be a familiar composition. It was fabric.
Wait, no... You unrolled what Bad Ape gave you, coming face to face with... a hat. Not just a hat. A winter hat! Made of wool, it was tan in color and even had its little puff at the top intact after all these years and it felt amazing against your already cold fingertips.
Your lips parted before a smile encased your face. "Thank you!" You had a jacket already and it hadn't left your body since the winter began. The harsh nature of the Pacific Northwest really had its way making it bitter cold. In the years since the Flu wiped out a majority of the human population, you had been keeping pieces of clothing for yourself, almost hoarding them the way a dragon hoarded gold but a hat was something you hadn't been able to find. They must have been in high demand, you joked.
"Thi-this isn't your hat, right?" Guilt hit you at the idea that he was giving it to you because he felt you needed it more.
"Oh, no no." He shook his head and pulled his own small cap from the pocket on his vest. It was quaint and had to have been a children's hat from the size. Placing it on his head, you beamed with joy at both the gift and the smile that Bad Ape gave you in response to putting his own on. Now you could match! "Bad Ape had extra, for you," He gestured towards the hat, "Cold."
Raising your hands up, you placed it on your head and earned yourself a hoot from your friend. You took that to be a good thing, it must have suited you. Giving the Ape in front of you a thumbs up, you felt a swell of happiness hit you as he replied with his own thumbs up.
