Umm...yes?
This was so bad i thought the checkmark was bought but NO politics are just that bad.
Ah, yes. Let’s reduce the importance of a 75 year old medium down to only your lived experience. This is so insane.
This is such an incredibly bad take, for several reasons.
The election is over, and Biden has won. So before I continue, can we finally take a minute to keep it 💯? Can we please talk like rational adults, without anyone being called a Russian bot? Without being falsely accused of trying to help Trump win? Can we finally be honest about criticisms of Joe Biden? And can we please do this without someone disingenuously saying that we have to wait until after the inauguration, until after the 2022 midterms, until after the 2024 elections, etc, etc, etc??
Okay ..... first of all, look at how the tweet was framed. How it specifically names Trump’s racism and misogyny, but uses the passive voice to frame Biden’s racist past by vaguely reducing it to merely “something he said,” and then even further removes Biden from his racism by conveniently shoving it into the distant past of “30 years ago.” As if there aren’t people who are still suffering in prison because of the racist crime bill that Joe Biden wrote (while simultaneously getting his son, Hunter Biden, drug rehab assistance). As if felony records aren’t still preventing millions of Black and Brown people from getting good jobs. As if there aren’t families that weren’t irreparably broken up because of Biden’s Nixonian focus on waging “the war on drugs” on Black people.
Look, the people who voted for Trump are racists, or Trump’s racism wasn’t a deal breaker for them (which makes them de facto racists, in my book). This tweet was aimed not at Trump supporters, but instead it was aimed at people on the left who were rightly demanding some accountability from Biden. This was supposed to be some kind of centrist slight to progressives (who, surprise, don’t vote for Republicans). And for the record, I’m not trying to “convince” Trump voters of anything. If they can’t see what a giant piece of shit Trump is, then I can’t help them. So I’m not making posts chasing after them in hopes that maybe, perhaps, hopefully, possibly, one day they might not be racists anymore. That train left the station a long time ago. There’s better ways for me to spend my time and energy.
And what’s even worse is, they frame Biden’s racism as only being simple words; things he “said.” It’s a very white liberal view of racism, where “racism” is only words and individual feelings, not an intentionally harmful, structural set of interlocking laws and social norms.
I almost wouldn’t give a fuck about it if “saying bad things” was all Biden did. But Joe Biden isn’t just some average person off the street. Biden has political power. And Biden has a generations-long career of working in lockstep with abject racists like Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond, and James Eastland. Biden proudly called those men his friends and mentors. I’m reminded of something that I always misquote. How does that saying go? “If an individual is racist, that’s his problem. But when he has the power to make his racism into law, then that’s my problem.” Anyway, Biden’s racism is my problem, because I’m a Black man and now he has even more power than he did when he wrote the racist crime bill. And please don’t gaslight me just because I’m paying more attention to his ACTIONS over the last 40 years, and not the pretty campaign promises he’s only recently made within the last 18 months.
This ain't it, chief.
Of these movies only Antz is more skewed towards adults, though not by a lot (profanity and some graphic violence, by insect standards, but that's about it).
