So I have become very fond of the Homestuck fanfiction Trailerstuck by Bad-imagination, especially the storylines regarding the Makara-Leijon family. The other day I was listening to He Won't Go by Adele and decided it perfectly represents Kurloz and Meulin's relationship in Trailerstuck, so I went ahead and wrote a little fic combining the two. Read on if you care, I guess?
Will he
Will he still remember me
Or will he go back to the place where he
Chose the poison over me
Your name is Meulin Leijon and you haven't seen your matesprit in almost a decade. You feel like you should be excited about seeing him again, ever since you got the call this morning that he'd be released, but your mind keeps alluding back to that one troll Adele song, He Won't Abscond. How do you know that after Kurloz gets out of Amethyst he won't go straight back to the brotherhood: the place where he chose the poison over you.
Of course you've never actually heard the song, but your daughter went through a phase where she sung troll Adele around the house all the time, saying it represented her OTPs. You can read her lips, so you certainly know the lyrics and you know that song certainly represents your OTP. Or what was your OTP anyway.
The truth is you have no idea how much Kurloz will have changed after his time in prison. You have heard about the terrors of the amethyst institute, where they do nothing but torture and experiment on criminals. The NJ cops didn't tell you anything other than that he's returning to you, so for all you know, he could be missing a leg and have a tumor from experimental medicines they gave him. Despite your fears you know this is silly. You know very well that people who enter amethyst's experimental hospital never come out.
What terrifies you, though, is the possibility that all the time he spent among brotherhood members in jail will have changed him, hardened him.
No more resemblance to the man you met
Just a vague and broken boy instead
Bluhhhhh you have to get that song out of your head. You try doing whatever you can to distract yourself from Kurloz, but everything you do reminds you of him. You eventually fall asleep, the lyrics still grating in your mind. You feel like you're the only person to be so affected by a song you've never heard.
You don't hear them knocking at the door. Of course you don't hear them. Nepeta shakes you awake, anxious.
"Mom, there's a cop at the door" you saw her say. "Go talk to them, it might be about Dad."
You walk to the door, heart pounding. You let the cop in and sit down, watching his mouth intently.
"Mrs. Leijon, your matesprit is outside, but before we let you see him, I should inform you of something."
Your vascular pump is ready to burst. Kurloz is right outside the door, and you have no clue if he'll be the same. You want to flee from the trailer, run out the back and abandon everything out of fear, but you won't abscond. You can't do it on your own. Damn, the accursed song is back in your head. You continue to watch the cop's mouth.
"In the Amethyst institute, Mrs. Leijon, your matesprit was in the company of some very violent trolls, including his own father, Makara Senior. While we try to ensure the safety of all our prisoners, there are some who we simply can't control."
You feel nauseous. Something did happen to Kurloz. "What happened to him? Is he injured?" You scream, not aware of how loud you are.
"I assure you that Kurloz Makara is perfectly healthy. This aforementioned incident occurred sweeps ago."
"Well what is the godsdamned incident!!!" You want to claw the officer's face to shreds.
"In a violent rage, Makara Senior attacked your matesprit and..." The officer pauses for a second, as if choosing how to say this in the best way possible. "He removed his tongue. I regret to tell you this, but your matesprit is mute."
You are heartbroken. Less for yourself, but more for everyone else. You haven't heard for sweeps, but you remember Kurloz had a gorgeous voice. It was one of the reasons you started liking him back in high school, and now it's gone. Nobody will ever hear him speak again. You start to weep.
"I'm going to let your matesprit in now" the officer said. "Try to be welcoming, re-integration into society can be difficult for prisoners."
You brace yourself as you feel the vibrations of footsteps nearing the door. A few seconds later, Kurloz appears in the doorway, exactly the same as you remember, save for three scars over his lips, resembling stitches. You run towards him and embrace him, crying into his chest.
After a few minutes you let go of him. You see him move his hands to form words. Since you've always been able to read lips, you're a bit rusty with sign language, but after a few seconds, you decipher it.
<<MEULIN, I HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH. I AM SO SORRY. I LOVE YOU.>>
"I love you too" you purr, embracing him again.
He won't go
He can't do it on his own
If this ain't love, then what is?
You're willing to take the risk.
