“Kriiiiiff….I thought that briefing would never end!!” I groaned out my complaint as I flopped onto the bunk I had claimed for the night. I stretched out with a sigh as my head rested on the firm, but not unpleasant, pillow. I heard a familiar pair of footsteps walk over to my bunk accompanied by a familiar heavy sigh. “Yeah. I hate these late night briefings, to tell you the truth.” Hunter huffed as he sat beside me on the edge of the bunk. He glanced down at me, giving me a weary smile. “You look comfortable.”
I tucked my hands behind my head, shimmying a little to get even more comfy, at least as comfy as I could on the clone bunk I was occupying. Clone bunks weren’t exactly designed for comfort or softness, they were merely a means to sleep safely without rough terrain digging into your spine. After years of sleeping on the standard bunks though, one does get accustomed. So accustomed in fact, normal soft mattresses or cushions felt foreign, if not utterly sinful. The last time Hunter and I were undercover at a noble’s villa, we were given a lavish room to stay the nights we were there. For three of those nights, my sergeant could not sleep on the bed. Instead, he opted for the lounge chaise that was near the indoor fountain. He claimed that the padding was firmer and more easy to tolerate.
Though he was never one for softness and such things, I believed whole heartedly that he deserved some luxury and nice things. Hunter reached down and gently brushed a lock of my black hair away from my face. He rested the palm of his hand against my cheek, gently caressing my face. He was exhausted, but that didn’t dim the affection that swept across his tatted face as he looked down at me. “You should get some sleep, sweetheart.” he said softly, his gruff tone laced with weariness. I sat up and situated myself so I was sitting next to him. Hunter was still clad in his armor, having not been able to find a moment to change. I patted his pauldron. “Here, let me help with this.” Not having the energy to argue, he nodded and stood up. Both of us worked expertly on the clasps and what not that kept his armor in place. Carefully placing the pieces of his armor in a reachable pile near the bunk, he was soon relieved of his armor, leaving him only in his black bodyglove. Hunter rolled his shoulders and neck, groaning when a few cricks crackled, granting him relief. He settled back down onto the bunk and I situated myself behind him, resting my hands on his broad shoulders. I started gently rubbing his shoulders, massaging his tight muscles. He grunted when I located a knot. “You store a lot of stress here, don’t you?” I ghosted my fingers over the area between his shoulder blades. He shivered as he nodded. “Not exactly intentional.” he gruffed. “I know,” I said as I worked the knot, knowing what method worked best on his body to relieve that stress. As I worked, I could hear Hunter’s stifled, breathy moans of relief as his stress melted away. Once I had finished, I patted his shoulder. “You can lie down if you want.” Hunter looked over his shoulder at me. “Where’re you gonna sleep?” “Just lie down first,” I urged. He blinked, unsure about what I meant but did so. With a grunt, he laid down on his back, letting out a breathy “Uhnf…” as he got comfy. As he relaxed, I grabbed a few of the spare blankets that were folded on one of the unoccupied bunks and hurried over back to Hunter. “What are you-” Before he could finish, I unfurled the blankets, laid down on top of him, and covered the both of us in the blankets. Hunter snorted out a chuckle as I nuzzled and rubbed my cheek against his chest, the sensation of the fabric soothing me. His relaxed pecs were soft against my cheek as I rested my head on his chest, the best pillows in my opinion. Once I got comfy, Hunter wrapped his arms around me, holding me close. I felt him place a kiss on the top of my head. “I could get used to this,” he told me and he inhaled and exhaled a deep breath.
After a few minutes, Hunter dozed off, I could tell by how his breathing evened out and how he started snoring softly. I smiled as my own eyelids grew heavy, eventually closing too.
