he knew her, a time ago. not much has seemed to change between either of them -- maybe her face was a bit bolder, a bit more mature, or he was just searching for something to mark it with. they evaluate each other for a few moments before he makes the first jab, per their unique relationship.

static, he hears static. not the hush of a radio in-between frequencies either, the caustic kind that comes from an angry television set. like the little bits of people’s lives that float in and out of his ear, the epicenter is in someone else’s head. someone else who shines? hard to say. maybe it’s just a somebody who’s plain good at being well guarded.
dan takes it as a cue to head home and lie down, shouldering his way through the mall crowd, when his eyes snap to diangelo? (no that’s not right) -and the noise gets louder. instead of thinking to himself ‘ what are you?, ’ he asks right it to her face. old childhood habits die hard.
