Book Excerpt (very unedited and unfinished)

Background: Gay couple, Kiel and Finley(selective mute whom Kiel has never heard speak vocally) This is the scene where Finley will finally tell Kiel he’s asexual.(is based in the late 1600’s so there wasn’t really a word for it to my knowledge)

Fin pulls away.

‘I don’t want to do this. I’m sorry...’

Kiel comforts him and just holds him in an embrace.

"Its okay. Thats okay. Is.....Is it something I did?"

He shakes his head.

'Its not you. I want to. my mind wants to, wants to show you my love, but my body... I just can't imagine myself ever going through with this...Im sorry. am I broken? I feel broken. Maybe if I -'

Kiel cuts off his worried rambling,

"Hey," softly, "hey... its okay. You're not broken. you're okay. you don't have to show me you love me. just being here with you is enough. this is all it ever has to be. is this okay? me holding you like this?" he loosens his arms just to have Fin hold him tighter.

'This...this is okay. Promise that this is enough? promise?'

"promise. thank you for telling me. id hate for you to force yourself into that." He wipes a tear from the pale boy's face. "Are you okay?"

He nods. 'Happy tears. only happy tears..........is this really okay?'

"its really okay."

'okay.......' both gaze softly through teary smiles.

"I love you"
