          The problem with Slayer adrenaline is that it comes in waves, rushes. Like tides, in and out and it can break and roll back right in the middle of a fight. Who's great idea was that? Some man's, probably.

Faith's high broke, hard, just like the window the beast thought would be a killer shortcut. Stronger than Oz, that’s for damn sure. Time's at a crawl, wave rush sucked right out from under her until she makes contact with the glass and tumbles out onto the campus lawn in a spray of shrapnel. She scrambles to her feet just in time to see the thing book past her like a bat out of hell, finds her tranq gun and hauls her cookies into the fog banking at the edge of the lawn --- chasing shadows, howls.

   "Where you at, Jojo? Best just come on out, get this over with." Where the hell is that kid?
