I'm surprised you didn't mention the weird side-romance. But man, the whole chase at the beginning and the final fight against Jafar were super lame, and that's not even comparing it with the original! Anyway boy, I do not want to see what they're going to do with Mulan.
honestly i thought the genie handmaiden romance was funny and i liked the setup of the movie being a story genie tells to his kids while living a fulfilling human life so I don’t take any particular issue with that one. as far as ~remaking aladdin~ goes i can get behind giving genie ties to characters other than aladdin even if its in the form of a romance subplot cause aladdin asking genie what he’s gonna do now that hes human and genie all but literally answering with ‘im gonna get LAID bro’ is funny
the opening chase really did fall flat though, there were markings of something fun with the whole bouncing off canopies (is it called a canopy in english i have no idea but you get what i mean) but it just didn’t cut it man. they never really lean into what they’re going for. at not a single point do they take that extra step to really deliver something great instead of just good or ok with the exception MAYBE being never had a friend like me, cause like i said they knew they couldn’t afford to fuck that one up. i liked the ending song too but like. thats a rap cover of never had a friend like me and it just goes to show that they were too pussy to actually put that one in the movie proper and really capitalise on the talents of the actors they hired and deliver something fresh instead of something guaranteed to make money
and i agree i really really really don’t want to see any new hot take on mulan from the current disney. the original aladdin was never too high on my list of favourites as a kid so i wasn’t that invested anyway but mulan was so formative to me and every new mediocre remake makes me less hopeful they’ll even remotely deliver something worth my money
