the perfect dinner companions...
well, o and i ate dinner as we traveled through the darkness, surrounded by the unseen, snow-covered mountains of washington state. and joining us in the dining car were carole and bill. who really could have also been known as karen and owen. because it was incredibly obvious that we were looking in a mirror while talking with them. lol.
you see, bill was a bit quiet, but had a witty, quick sense of humor when he did speak. intelligent, warm with a wonderful caring energy. carole talked as much as I do, and when the conversation turned to kitchen appliances and baking shenanigans, well, i realized we were, indeed, sharing dinner with kindred spirits.
to be able to share the number of kitchenaid mixers i have with her, and not have her bat an eyelash, and to discuss the benefits of glass vs. metal bowls, tilt-head: yay or nay, and the latest kitchenaid temperature-controlled bowl for tempering chocolate, well, i was sold. here were two dinner companions who will become fbtt (friends beyond the train). we’ve exchanged emails with a promise to send her the amazing no-knead bread recipe that don recently shared with me (hi don!)
and as carole and bill got off in wenatchee to bake family recipes with her own family for the weekend, i knew we’d found new friends.
it doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s really lovely!
