It’s the “Shit...” that gets me, man. 

If M hadn’t said that, I would be like “ok, this is just another setback, M needs time to realize what they’ve done and how to fix it” but the fact they realized they screwed up immediately and chased after them (even if M ultimately didn’t reach to them). 

It’s the progress in their relationship!!!!! Because, in the past, M wouldn’t have given a fuck about that, however, at least at that moment, it didn’t matter how much they wanted to deny it, or that maybe M would have doubled down on what they said under other circumstances, what mattered to M was that they hurt the detective, so they immediately wanted to fix it.
