Southern Banana Pudding for Luck and Money
INGREDIENTS: FOR THE PUDDING
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1 3/4 cups whole milk, divided
4 egg yolks
1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
3/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
FOR THE ASSEMBLY
5.5 ounce box vanilla wafers
3 medium bananas (sliced ½-inch thick)
FOR THE MERINGUE
4 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
2/3 cups granulated sugar
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Make the Pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Whisk in ½ cup of the milk and the egg yolks. In a large saucepan, place the remaining 3 cups milk. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently. Whisk 1 cup of the hot milk into the egg mixture. Whisk the egg mixture into the remaining hot milk in the saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 3 minutes more. Remove from heat. Add the butter and vanilla, stirring until the butter is melted. Set aside to cool slightly while you prepare the remaining ingredients.
Assemble the Dish: Arrange vanilla wafers in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish (you can reserve some to garnish, if you wish), and top with the banana slices. Pour the pudding through a fine-mesh sieve over the bananas and spread into an even layer.
Make the Meringue: In a large bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar with a mixer on high speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Spoon the meringue over the pudding, spreading it right up to the edges of the pan.
Bake until the meringue is lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes. Garnish with vanilla wafers, if desired. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Witch’s Brew Banana Bread
You will need:
(Regular Ingredients)
2 cups white flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 tbsps milk
(Witchy Ingredients)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3 over-ripe (browned) bananas, mashed
(Optional Ingredients)
1/2 cup walnuts
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 stick unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 F (165 C) and grease a 9x5 loaf pan with butter or coconut oil. Dust with extra sugar to make removing the loaf easier!
2. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk or mix with an electric mixer the egg, sugar, and oil. Sift in the dry ingredients that were previously set aside. You’re going to have to work hard to mix this! The mixture will be somewhat dry and crumbly.
4. Mash the bananas in a separate bowl and add milk and vanilla. Combine until uniform and then add this mixture to the large bowl containing your flour/egg/etc mix from before.
5. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula, folding to really incorporate the bananas. At this point you can add your chocolate chips or walnuts if you desire!
6. Pour your batter into the greased loaf pan and smooth the top with your spatula. If you want cinnamon-sugar banana bread, combine your brown sugar, extra melted 1/2 stick of butter, and cinnamon. Working in batches, pour 1/5 of your banana bread batter then 1/5 of your sugar-cinnamon mix. Do this five times until you’ve used up both mixes. Taking a spoon or a kabob stick, swirl the batter around a couple times before smoothing the top with a spatula.
7. Bake for about 60 - 75 minutes until the center has set and is no longer jiggly. A knife or fork should come out clean.
What magick is infused in this quick-bread?
Vanilla - Fosters feelings of warmth, passion, love, and belonging. Vanilla is an essential for creating an open and accepting home and often represents hospitality and willingness to bond/connect.
Bananas - Said to prevent harm when traveling, full of potassium and healthy sugars. Also said to potentially increase sexual stamina.
Notes/Tips:
• If your bananas aren’t browned or ripe enough, freeze them for about 30 minutes and allow to defrost on your countertop. They will be browned by the time the frost has evaporated.
• Mash your bananas very well - do not get lazy at this step. Well-mashed bananas are key to keeping this bread moist.
• Vegan? That’s cool! Replace the egg with 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce and the milk with almond or soy milk! The optional butter for the cinnamon-sugar version can be replaced with 3 tbsp coconut or olive or vegetable oil!
• Gluten free babes, I got you: Replace the 2 cups flour with 2 cups almond flour. Your loaf will be a little denser but still delicious!
Charmed Chocolate Babka
You will need:
(Regular ingredients)
Dough
1 Packet Active Dry Yeast
1/2 Cup Warm Almond Milk
3 Cups all-purpose flour + extra to reduce stickiness
3 tbsps unsalted butter
2 1/4 tbsps olive or coconut oil
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp Sugar
Filling
1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
Glaze
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Water
1 tbsp Honey
(Witchy Ingredients)
1 Cup Nutella
1 bar (4 oz) 80% dark chocolate
Instructions:
1. In a big bowl, stir yeast, almond milk (warmed up), 1 tsp sugar, and 1/3 cup of the flour. Let proof for 15 minutes until bubbly.
2. Once proofed, add the mixture to the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a dough hook. Alternatively, if you would like to knead by hand, just transfer to a larger bowl. Add in butter (softened), oil, egg, and salt. Mix well before gradually adding in flour, 1/3 cup at a time. Knead by hand or with hook for ten minutes until the dough is smooth and uniform. Add more flour as needed to prevent excess stickiness. Refrigerate covered for 6 hours or overnight.
3. Let dough come to room temperature and roll out into a rectangle, about 12 x 20 inches. Chop your chocolate bar into small pieces. Spread nutella over the rectangle, leaving a 1/2 inch border. Dust with cocoa powder and sprinkle chocolate pieces evenly over the rectangle.
4. Roll up jelly-roll style and place seam side down. Leaving about a 1/2 inch section to spare on one end, cut down the middle lengthwise so you have two sections connected at the end. Braid the sections together (over-under) and then loop the braid over itself, as if to create an infinity loop.
5. Grease a 9 x 5 loaf pan and then line with greased parchment paper. Place folded dough in the pan and cover. Let rise in a warm place for 2 hours.
6. Heat glaze ingredients in a saucepan until boiling. Boil for 4 minutes, ensuring that the sugar has dissolved before you take it off the heat. Set aside.
7. Bake the babka for 40 minutes at 375 F (190 C). Let cool and then brush the top with the glaze.
What is magick about this babka?
Nutella - Nutella is primarily made from hazelnuts which have many correspondences in witchcraft. In Celtic lore, the Hazel tree is known to provide great wisdom and clairvoyance. Hazelnuts also promote fertility, divination, and protection.
Chocolate - As I’ve covered before, chocolate is primarily used in love potions due to it being a natural aphrodisiac. Chocolate is also great for grounding and prosperity, especially if it is dark.
Notes/Tips:
•As I mentioned above, you can chill the dough overnight as opposed to doing the 6 hours during the day.
•To make it vegan: replace 3 tbsps butter with more oil (approx. 2 1/4 more tbsps) and replace the egg with 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce. There are other substitutions for eggs as well!
•After my loaf had baked for about 40 minutes I actually removed it and baked for an additional 10 minutes to crisp up the bottom. You don’t have to do this but it would make the crust texture more even.
Here’s the loaf I made a few weeks ago:
Apple pies, crumbles, turnovers, and other pastries are great for good luck and prosperity, particularly because many of them contain cinnamon or nutmeg and allspice.
