WC: 333, non-holiday, gn!reader, tw food, suggestive, not beta'd
A sprinkling of white dusts Jake’s beard, beyond the delicious salt and pepper you’re used to feeling against your face as he kisses you.
Flour fills the air, falling silently like a blanket of snow, dusting his dark curls, long eyelashes, cheeks and mostly, his beard.
You’ve just started something he’s likely to finish.
A food fight.
No. It's more of an avalanche of ingredients that miss the mixing bowl and make a huge mess in your kitchen.
"We're gonna run out of flour," you pout, nodding toward the bowl.
He chuckles darkly, eyebrows shooting up as he swipes his thumb over the fullness of his bottom lip. "It's powdered sugar, mi amor. Here."
He pulls you close, arm winding around your waist, and crushes his mouth to yours in a delicious, confectionery kiss.
You melt against the warmth of his chest like butter on a skillet. He does make you sizzle.
But he is a man of vengeance and he’s gonna make a mess of you in one way or another, so you willingly accept the glob of shortening he sneaks across your cheek, breaking the heaven of your kiss.
“We better call a truce or we’ll never get these made,” you attempt, brandishing a spatula to defend yourself, your body nearly shaking with giggles.
Jake reaches for the chocolate chips, holding the open bag threateningly in the air.
“Don’t you dare, Jake Lockley,” you warn, lightly swatting his arm with the spatula. “That’s the only bag we have.”
He pours a few into his open palm, a taunting glint in his eyes. “Bet this would taste good on your skin.”
"Waste another one and I'm gonna smack your ass, Lockley." You pop the spatula teasingly on the counter for good measure.
He shrugs, stalking toward you, "Don't threaten me with a good time unless you're ready to bend me over."
It takes you until midnight to finish baking night with Jake, but the cookies aren't the only delicious treats you enjoy.

The sound of running water filled the bathroom as you scrubbed the dirt off your hands. Deuce stood, leaning on the doorframe with his arms crossed as he watched you clean your hands. You had been doing some yard work outside of Ramshakle after school when Deuce showed up with a bag of baking ingredients.
You had completely forgotten about the promise you had made earlier this morning, with having to worry about Grim and your studies throughout the day the promise of teaching Deuce how to make some simple pastries had already escaped your mind by your second class.
That leads us to where you are now. Rinsing the soap off your hands and using your elbow to turn off the faucet, you reach for the hand towel hanging up before a silly idea pops into your head. You turned toward Deuce, whose resting expression was always neutral. You raise your hands as you take a step closer to him.
“Achoo.” You whispered before flicking water at him, the clear droplets landing on his face. Deuce’s face scrunched up as the water landed on him.
“Why?’ He looked genuinely confused, maybe even betrayed.
“Sorry, you looked like you were zoning out a bit.” You gave a small, apologetic smile before quickly grabbing the hand towel and drying your hands. Without even thinking, you raised the small towel to Deuce’s face, gently patting the water off his face. He didn’t resist as he closed his eyes and blood rushed to his cheeks, coating his face in a light blush.
“Ah- wait- uh…” Quickly realizing your actions, you stuttered a bit as you lowered the towel. Deuce brought his fist up to his mouth, clearing his throat quietly as his eyes looked away in nervousness.
“Sorry about that.” “It’s… It’s alright.”
An awkward silence followed.
“You, uh… what are we going to bake?” Deuce asked quickly, ready to get out of the awkward situation as he backed up from the door of the small bathroom. His eyes looking everywhere but you.
“How about some cupcakes?”

“The secret to my chocolate cake,” Elain said, standing on her tippy toes as she opened the wooden cabinet. “Is Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa Powder,” She stretched a little more, desperately trying to get the tips of her finger on the container on the highest shelf. “It gives it,” Elain let out a little grunt. “The really nice dark color.”
Elain felt the heavy presence of Cassian come up behind her, maybe an inch of space separated their bodies, as he reached up and easily grabbed the container of cocoa powder.
Even though Cassian was only 22, he had the muscles of an Olympic God. She had no idea how he did it, but she wasn’t complaining. Especially not in the summer when their family would spend their days by the pool swimming and tanning until they were so exhausted they ended up crashing in the living room with some movie lulling them to sleep. And she definitely didn’t mind during the fall, when their families would get together for their annual flag football tournaments.
Elain, Cassian, and Rhysand versus Azriel, Feyre, and Nesta.
Whenever they won, which wasn’t as often as Cassian and Rhysand would like, Cassian would lift Elain over his shoulder in celebration. There was something about the ease in which he handled her that left her breathless, or maybe it was all the blood rushing to her head as her head landed somewhere by his tushy and her feet flailed above his head that caused her to feel so light headed.
“Are you sharing secrets with me, Lainy?” Cassian teased, his warm chuckle sounded right next to her ear and reverberated through her body. He leaned forward just a bit, his brown hair falling over her shoulder, and Elain pivoted just slightly towards him and hoped he didn’t notice the slight pinkening of her cheeks.
She told herself it was the early September chill that caused the shiver to creep down her spine.
“Yes, one of many,” Elain teased as she pointed a finger and pressed it into his hard chest. “And you’re the only one who knows, so you better not tell.”
“Just how many secrets do you have, Lainy?” Cassian grinned with a raised eyebrow, his hazel eyes bright.
Cassian moved his arm to rest against the counter, effectively trapping Elain. She ignored the cords of muscle that flexed beneath his dark skin.
“That,” Elain said, nudging his arm out of the way with her hip. “Is none of your business. Now,” She grasped the container from his hand and tried to break free of the bicep that was barricading her to the counter. “Do you want to bake Nesta’s birthday cake or what?’
Cassian dropped his arm immediately. His face turned startlingly serious, the kind of expression Elain imagined he wore when charging down the football field or across the baseball diamond or even in the ballet classes he did on the side to stay active. If Cassian set his mind to something, then he was nothing but pure grit until he achieved it.
It was one of the things that Elain admired most about him.
He had one of the busiest schedules she'd ever seen, but he never complained. He still found time to be with his friends and family, and he made sure to give everyone his undivided attention. And he always tried to make everybody's day better.
So, when he came to her and asked for help to bake a cake for Nesta’s birthday, Elain didn’t hesitate to say yes.
Cassian, with all of his determination, had been trying to win over Nesta for as long as Elain could remember. The second he laid eyes on her, Elain saw the interest spark in his hazel eyes. She saw the curiosity that curled his lips into a grin every time he was in the same room as her — It was a shift on a biological level, as if something in Nesta called to him.
She saw the way that Cassian hardened his heart just a little every time he watched Nesta with someone else. Someone that treated her poorly, someone that Nesta didn’t even like. Someone that would hurt Cassian just as much as it would hurt Nesta.
So, Elain pushed aside her silly little crush and agreed to help him.
Her smile never even faltered.
Despite the dull ache in her chest and the constant pain that scratched at her heart
“First things first,” Elain said, taking a deep breath as she stepped away from him. “Preheat the oven to 350,”
__
Her cheeks hurt from smiling.
They physically ached, but Elain couldn’t stop it.
Not as she saw a flour coated Cassian looking at the standing mixer as if it had committed the worst kind of betrayal.
“How could he do this?” Cassian grunted, leaning forward with one hand on his hip and the other on the top of her pink kitchen-aid.
Cassian, in all his eagerness, went three speeds too high on the mixer and a mushroom cloud of flour erupted in the kitchen.
At some point Cassian had tied his hair into a messy bun, but a few strands of inky hair had fallen forward. Slightly blocking his handsome face from Elain’s view, but Elain could still see the hard line of his jaw that was popping out just a bit.
“It’s not a big—” Elain cut herself off as Cassian’s hazel eyes shot to her face. He inspected her face, bringing one hand up to her flour covered face.
Cassian delicately ran his finger across her plump cheek, brushing off the flour that had puffed out of the mixer, and adding a little more to the white haziness in the air.
Elain hoped that there was enough flour left on her cheek for Cassian not to see the blush that his touch created.
“Blake betrayed us.” Cassian said, his dark brow pinching.
“Blake?”
“The mixer.” Cassian stated, grabbing a clean dish towel to gently clean up her face. Her chin was delicately tucked between his fingers.
“Its name is Blake?” Elain asked, ignoring how closely her lips came to touching his fingers. The distance between the two heavy and charged.
“There’s always a Blake,” Cassian grumbled, his warm breath scattered over her face as he worked. Elain felt strangely unsettled being the center of his attention. “Always.”
His brown eyes were trained on her, and Elain vaguely wondered how much flour was on her face that it took him so long to wipe it all off.
Elain slowed her breathing, her eyes trained on his face as he worked, and she wondered what was going through his mind.
“What are you thinking?” Elain asked, unable to stop herself before the words rushed out of her mouth.
Cassian paused, his hand stood still on her cheek, and he looked at her.
Really looked at her.
He let the towel fall and used his fingers to tuck a lock of golden hair behind her ear.
“I am thinking,” Cassian said, his eyes looking into hers. He tilted her chin up, his fingers scorching against her skin. Cassian paused for a moment, and Elain could see that he was mulling over what words to say — but that concentration was broken by the dinging on his phone. “That we should do this more often.”
Cassian gave her an easy smile. He dropped her chin and tapped her on the nose before backing up and taking his phone out of his pants.
“It’s Az,” Cassian said, and Elain could hear the anxiety in his voice. “They’ll be here in an hour.”
“I guess we should finish.” Elain said, forcing herself to smile, and ignoring the surge of pleasure as some of the tension eased from Cassian's body.
__
“It looks good.” Cassian said, and Elain could hear the pride in his voice as he took in their cake.
As far as Elain was concerned, it was the best cake that she had ever made.
“It looks perfect! Our very own cake,” Elain said smiling. “Devil’s Delight.” They had named the cake after Cassian almost doubled the amount of cocoa powder in the recipe, but Elain had managed to take most of it out.
Elain hip checked him, and blushed as Cassian laid a heavy arm over her shoulder.
The cake was perfectly round, so they had that going for them, but it was slightly lopsided. And the lettering that spelled “Happy Birthday Nesta '' was written in Cassian’s scrawl rather than Elain’s practiced handwriting. The frosting wasn’t smooth, per say, but if anyone asked they could say that they wanted a more rustic look for the cake — Elain was just happy that they had enough frosting left considering how much they ate while waiting for the cake to cool.
They admired their work for all of 20 seconds, and during those few moments Elain let herself relax in Cassian’s embrace and let herself lean into his warmth, before the front door creaked open.
Cassian instantly dropped his arm — Elain immediately felt the loss of him — and grabbed the cake. There was a look of pure excitement on his face as he picked up the cake, and he nodded towards Elain, silently asking her to light the candles that circled the perimeter of their masterpiece.
Elain did so quickly, and stepped off to the side to let Cassian leave the kitchen. As soon as he crossed the threshold and headed to the front of the house, he started singing Happy Birthday in a booming voice.
She followed behind him, quietly singing along, and she peered around Cassian’s large frame to see Nesta standing at the door with Feyre, Rhys, and Azriel. Elain was more than happy to let her voice be drowned out by Cassian, Feyre, and Rhys — In fact, it was almost as if she and Azriel were in competition to see who could sing the quietest.
Nesta stood in the middle of them all, her arms wrapped around herself, and tried to hide her smile. But it was obvious that she was happy — the happiest that she had looked in a long time.
After they finished singing Cassian leaned down to smack a kiss on Nesta's cheek and told her to blow the candles out, so she did.
“This is the ugliest cake I have ever seen.” Nesta said laughing, and Cassian clutched his chest in mock outrage.
“It’s beautiful!” Elain said, taking a step closer to the group. “Cassian worked really hard on it.”
Nesta’s blue eyes looked at her sister before moving onto Cassian.
“I appreciate it,” Nesta said, placing one hand on Cassian’s forearm. “Now someone cut me a piece.”
“A, you’re starting to get frustrated. Maybe you should sit down and cool off a little.” Offered B, leaning on the counter as they watched their human friend furiously stirring their concoction, flour and red stained all over their clothes.
“No way! I think I’m onto something here. If I just add more of this...” B watched as A grabbed the blood bag off the counter and poured some into the mixture. The tangy scent hit the vampire’s nose and they began to salivate.
“Please, B. I don’t want you to overwork yourself because of me.”
“Come on. You’re the one who said you hated drinking blood from humans. These blood-cookies will be a great alternative!”
“If you don’t die from exertion first.”
“If I do, I’ll let you have my corpse.” A said with a wink. B grimaced.
“That’s messed up, dude. I appreciate what you’re doing for me, but please don’t overdo it, okay?”
“Fine. Now, get out of my kitchen before I pull out the garlic.”
