Hoofer Steps is unable/willing to conceive her own children due to wanting to keep her physical appearance to train and engage with her young dance students. That, and lack of having a mate. She's always been a lone star, not wanting to find companionship in another. She instead devotes all of her love and attention to her students and dance studio.

That is until her friend Mayor Mare mentioned to her the two children currently residing within the orphanage; a small Pegasus stallion who'd been in their care since a colt and a newborn pegasus that was left with them the prior month; barely a newborn.

The two boys seemingly had an unspoken bond that even they didn't understand. The older colt refusing adoption without having the small pink bundle included in the family as well. Hoofer was entranced by the colt's dedication, and had tugged at her motherly instincts that she'd sworn to her students. With a week's worth of consideration, Hoofer returned to the orphanage to adopt the two boys and officially stepping into the world of motherhood.

Little Lamp Light and Bashful Light were brothers until Bashful reached the age of 6 when the small pony jumped immediately into the art of ballet as soon as they could to Hoofer's delight and quickly became her prodigy student (all mother's consider their children prodigies, right?)

Though enrolled in a male ballet course, Bashful Light usually wanted to attend the classes that instructed the young fillies; always drawn to the large, elaborate tutus and more feminine attire used for their routines. Hoofer Steps wasted no time in enrolling her foal into the other course, watching them thrive as they were now in an environment that better fit their personality. 

Not soon after, Bashful Light slowly began asking their mother and friends to refer to them as Balletomane instead of the more masculine name "Bashful Light". This quiet transition did little to harm Balletomane but it did warrant bullying around the school.

Doing little to interfere with their self discovery, Hoofer simply allowed their child to grow. Balletomane was now seemingly the little sister of the family.

"Balletomane, you have to stay strong," Moonlight Sonata chided, clicking his beak as he spoke. "You can't let your limbs waver! You must be able to flow with the energy of the stage and awe the audience with your elegance and grace!"

Unlike Beatrice, Sonata is much more caring and personal when it comes to teaching his pupils and instead uses soft criticism and encouraging notes rather than rash remarks and hasty executions. Because of this, Balletomane much prefers working on her routines with Moonlight Sonata and hones her skills more appropriately under his wing. That said, she holds both of her instructors close to her heart and is extremely close with the two.

Moonlight Sonata devotes all of his free time to correcting postures of fillies and colts in the studio along with running his classes. He loves the work that he does and adores watching his pupils grow into a impressive performers on stage! Sonata spends early mornings and late nights in Hoofer Step's Crystal Empire dance studio, prepping his lesson plans and preparing the outfits, snacks, dance routines, etc. for his students later in the day alongside Beatrice Belle (who often comes in late and toting an attitude that often puts off the children).

Sonata knows Beatrice means no harm with her disposition and it's a second full-time job dancing around the dragon hybrid to keep her mood pleasant enough as not to upset the students. Both the Hippogriff and Dragon both balance each other out quite well; a good cop/bad cop situation if you will!
