Alina Orlova's Veidrodeli has such a unique and haunting folk sound to it. I put it in my Folk Pop playlist but it seems to warrant a playlist of its own. I added her music to 5+ playlists. 😅
Ah, and I listened to Katarsis discography a few times - added theirs. I'm not sure if it's specific to Lithuania, but I noticed a few of these songs do a sort of upbeat or bop upswing to melancholic sounds. It's not like Caramel by Blur or most of Radiohead's melancholy songs. There are certain elements that seem American 80s inspired but with a modern twist such as in Is Kur by Alina Orlova. Her vocal is very haunting folk but the background is very… a modern style The Cure. Hard to explain. But the song ends on piano notes and fades out in melancholy as the upbeat is removed.
I don't know music lingo so I can't fully explain the experience - but we don't have this specific style here in the States that I can think of. It sounds very specific. The way she plays with major and minor keys... I wonder if the lyrical composition also has its own specific flair? Now I'm listening to Laumzirgiai Melyni and her vocals are low - THE RANGE?! And in Sailor??? Hello queen! Her vocal color is distinct or I would think these aren't by the same artist.
The ability and desire to experiment? The type of thing I'd wish Baekhyun and Jongdae of EXO would do because they have the vocal range but they won't. 😭 Now on Alina's Lijo and it's very folk but it's also like… faerie rock cottagecore opera in an enchanting forest. They're using strings in a similar way that someone would use a guitar. But it's definitely faerie rock. 🤘☘️
I've never heard an artist like this in my life. It feels like I'm listening to a faerie enchanting me to a forest where I can be free. But she also expects me to rock to piano-strings-core in a pagan forest ritual.
