Bancroft (2017)
For the Soft OC Asks: 4. 5. 14.16 please !
Soft OC asks | Always Accepting
Thank you for the ask!! No specified characters means I'm just gonna pull from whatever comes to me first.
4. What's an item that is deeply important and special to them? What makes it so special?
Sawyer doesn't have it anymore. It was confiscated when he was taken to Kinloch. But he used to have a posy ring he saved and saved and saved up to buy for his girl in that backwater Ferelden village the Templars burned down to find him. She's dead now, along with his parents and older brothers. She hadn't accepted the ring in the first place. She'd wanted to, but her father never approved of him, being that Sawyer was born a girl and all.
5. Do they have any collections?
You can see Syrion's life as a collection tbh. I talked about it a bit here in the lucky item section, but I liken Syrion to a magpie. He travels a lot, since he's possessed by a spirit of Adventure. Everywhere he goes, he tends to find a few things of interest. His entire person, then, becomes this eclectic presentation of where he's been and who's impacted him.
14. What's something they unashamedly adore?
Lantos fucking loves nugs. Not cooked, alive. He will genuinely get mad at someone for killing a nug in front of him. Back in Orzammar, he had little choice but to eat them, growing up in Dust Town - beggars can't be choosers after all - but now that he's topside, he's basically a vegetarian. He loves animals. To everyone's surprise.
16. Do they have a "lucky" item?
When Bancroft joined the Redwaters, his long term girlfriend (who eventually gets captured into the Gallows/is in the Gallows as of Sun-Touched) gave him a sheep's wool rope necklace with a small, wooden carving of a Cedar tree. I base Kirkwall off of Lebanon (because my family is Lebanese-Italian and I think the geography/climate of Kirkwall matches the country well) and Cedar is a very historical and symbolic wood there. It's is seen as a gift from God, promising good fortune and good will, representing resilience and strength. Sheep's wool has historically been used to craft prayer ropes in Lebanon also. I'm generally applying that to a "rosery" type situation re: the Chantry.
Hayley Law in Altered Carbon (2018) Fallen Angel
Kovacs accepts Bancroft's offer and begins the investigation using videos Bancroft had received threatening his life. He identifies the serial number of a weapon in a video and tracks down the owner, a former military soldier. Meanwhile Lt. Ortega uses a device to follow Kovacs's movements and whereabouts.
*Joel Kinnaman says "What the hell is wrong with you" with almost the same tone and inflection as he does in Suicide Squad.

About Kirby Doolittle and Avery Bancroft:
Will contain spoilers for the 2024-25 AMTA case. And also a gender for Kirby.
Why did Kirby Doolittle buy two tickets for the train? One as himself and one as Casey? And why does he only check into one?
These three questions have haunted me for a while. But! I believe I have found a plausible story. (it is not plausible. this case is making me mentally ill).
Kirby Doolittle (aged 25) was working at the annual charity gala as a security guard. Then he sees his uncle's old boss. He overhears the boss is looking for a new assistand and smoothly insets himself into the conversation and sinches the job for himself.
Avery Bancroft (beekeeping age) needs a new secritary. Then a young guy who looks great in uniform (Avery is straight probably... he just likes having attractive secretaries) approaches him awkwardly about being his new secretary. Avery accepts.
Blah blah blah, he gets ill, blah blah blah, kirby gets a crush on his hot new emotionally unavailable boss, blah blah blah, they travel the world together and there's definitely tension.
Then:
Kirby Doolittle books two tickets for the Midlands Rivera Express, one for his boss Avery Bancroft in the fancy room, and one under his legal name Casey French in the shitty room. (transgender? i have thoughts).
But then Bancroft gets mistaken and thinks the train is full and is very much like "Oh no, Kirby! I guess I have to sleep in the same luxurious bed with my assistant!" And so obviously boycrushing, Kirby buys a second ticket for himself in Avery's room.
But then of course they get on the train and Avery examines if it makes him gay to appreciate personal assistants physically, regardless of gender. I mean he did it once with Kirbys uncle, but that was in the early 90's and doesn't count. He decides it would make him gay and so he tells Kirby that he has to find his own sleeping arrangements.
And that is my headcannon about Kirby and Avery Doolittle and the Casey French Debacle.
