Wildberry Cookie The Right Hand

Of all the queen's knights and all the queen's men, you may find no one as devoted or loyal as Wildberry Cookie. Adopted by her highness before her fall, the young cookie had the special privilege of being raised alongside the royal family and witnessing first hand the queen's many miracles... and shenanigans.

When the tragedy struck, Wildberry was one of the only ones to be allowed inside her chambers. When the royals witnessed the rise of the beast, Wildberry was the first to rally by her side. And when her majesty was torn from her kingdom, he was the one to upkeep her iron throne until that fateful day she returned.

Relationships Baneberry Cookie: I will wait patiently for your return. Until then, you can trust me to ensure your legacy endures.

Royal Berry Cookie: His majesty proves to be a very useful ally. I can't help but sense there's something bothering him, though.

Royal Berry Cookie The Puppet King

When Royal Berry was born, the Queen Mother saw him as the manifestation of her happiness and joy. Now the empress can't even find the will to spare him a passing glance. What could've changed, you might ask. Is it the king's weaker dough? His lack of will? Or maybe it's her lingering sense of guilt...

Regardless of this... fracture, the empress is determined to make use of him yet. If Wildberry is an extension of the empress's power and might, Royal Berry is her mouthpiece; alongside his wife, he is the one echoing her decrees and doctrine to the public and ensuring the chain keeps moving long after she's gone.

Relationships Baneberry Cookie: I miss you, and yet I can't say that I'm not relieved at the same time...

Wildberry Cookie: Why..? I don't understand why she... Why she just... A-and stop staring at my wife-!

Jungleberry Cookie The Hesitant Queen

The radiant and cautious Queen Jungleberry, unlike many suitors of the Berry Kingdom, wasn't raised under candlelight or pampered with meat jellies and sweets. Rather, Jungleberry was raised as a warrior in the sticky and humid forests surrounding the kingdom. It's said that she met her husband during a hunting trip, and the two have been inseparable since.

Adjusting to royal life after she got married was a struggle. Adjusting to life under the thumb of a madwoman is an entirely different plight, one she wouldn't wish on anyone. If she could, Jungleberry would take her and her family far away from here and start over. Alas, she can't. Not when all eyes are on her.

Relationships Baneberry Cookie: I respect her majesty, but I am not the first nor the last to question her leadership as of late... Perhaps her imprisonment will give us some space to breathe.

Royal Berry Cookie: He has such a tender heart. Even despite all we have been through he still has that radiant smile.

Wildberry Cookie: I never met anyone so eager to breathe down my neck...

Princess Cookie: You are my pride and joy. I worry, though, that you'll follow the empress's path a bit too strictly...

Knight Cookie: I remember seeing you when you were only a child. How big you've grown.

Raspberry Cookie: You won't find what you want here. Please, free yourself from this place.

Princess Cookie The Young Prodigy

As the sole heiress to the Baneberry Empire, it's Princess Cookie's duty to uphold its traditions and values, and set a shining example for the rest of the kingdom. And what an example she is; managing kingdom territories, snagging trade deals, even wooing over the public and oozing charisma with every step. Truly, she is her grandmother's granddaughter.

But even a princess can have her moments. All this success and glory is becoming stale. There has to be more outside the kingdom's reach, right? Surely no one will notice if she left for a moment...

Relationships Baneberry Cookie: Grandmama looked so cool! I want to be just like her one day, with my own royal court and everything!

Royal Berry Cookie: Father-! I'm old enough to travel outside the empire, don't you trust me?

Jungleberry Cookie: Mama is so strong and wise! Though, every time I mention grandmama, she seems to give this funny look on her face... Wonder what that's about.

Wildberry Cookie: He seems so calm, and yet... he gives me the willies. It's kinda hard to approach him, but I must!

Knight Cookie: You don't have to be such a wet blanket all the time, y'know! If I can handle a couple of overseas colonies, I can handle actually GOING to them!

Raspberry Cookie: Ough, she thinks she's SOOO great just because she became Vice Captain! Well you're not, o-okay?! You're totally not!

Knight Cookie The Bodyguard

The life of a knight is thankless work. The life of the princess's personal bodyguard, however, is truly a gauntlet of trial and error. As the trusted(and newest) ward of Princess Cookie, Knight Cookie is responsible for keeping her out of mortal danger, or keeping her from breaking rules. Recently though, the princess seems to have floated the idea of exploring the world outside of the Baneberry Empire, and now he has to ween her off or... go outside the empire...

Relationships Baneberry Cookie: I've heard her majesty truly was a formidable cookie...

Royal Berry Cookie: D-don't worry, your majesty! I'll keep an eye on Princess Cookie!

Jungleberry Cookie: Your majesty, you can count on me! Not a scratch will come onto Princess Cookie on my watch!

Princess Cookie: She's such a handful..! And yet, so brave... I hope I can be as bold as her one day!

Raspberry Cookie The Protege

All her life, the star of House Raspberry trained to go beyond her limitations as some regular "noble". Now, her hard work may finally bear results as she ascends to the vice captain of the royal guard. Now with a high position, she can finally say she has brought pride to her house. But will it be enough to satisfy her ambition? And what's this room they keep speaking of in the palace..?

...Tell me. What is the source of Happiness? It reminds me of a rose; Each time I reach for it the thorns pierce my dough, and yet I never stop trying to hold it.

Once again, I have returned to ramble on about stuff I made. Today the subject of rambling is Baneberry Cookie! Just like last time, this post will cover general information and any information about her relationships, her arc with Date Sugar, etc., will be tackled in the future. Let's get right into this.

GENERAL INFORMATION

When an unexpected siege leaves her kingdom in shambles, a determined Baneberry did everything to restore her beloved home. But that wasn't all she did. Seeing the kingdom as an extension of herself, she became obsessed with the idea of making her people stronger. What became of the happiest ruler on Earthbread was nothing short of tragic, and the beast commanding her domain is the only part of her that remains.

In spite of her beastly nature, Baneberry will appear to be very jovial to visitors, and will speak of her people with such vigor. She will seem devoted to her kingdom, and will protect it with her life. Do not be fooled; her love is conditional. Ultimately, her desires take first priority, and anyone that dares to stand in her way will surely meet a violent end.

Baneberry was the third ancient to fall to beast-hood.

In addition to the mainland, the Great Berry Empire has several colonies across Earthbread, making it the most spread out of the Beast territories.

When she wasn't present within the empire, Baneberry would often be searching other continents for artifacts under the name Lingonberry Cookie.

...This name was "suggested" to her by Wildberry Cookie. Her original idea of using the name "Pinkberry Cookie" was too embarrassing to be taken seriously.

LOCATIONS

Lake Fragaria Have you ever seen such a beautiful lake in your life? Surrounded by white, sandy beaches, floating berries on the water, yeast spores and sugarcane gnomes co-existing... The water is so clear and fizzy, too! Surely one dive couldn't hurt... More importantly, not only is Lake Fragaria a hotspot for all sorts of creatures, it's the main source of water for the Great Berry Empire. As such, cookies of the empire take great care in maintaining the health. Including guarding it. Many disgraced soldiers are tasked with guarding the lake from any outsiders desperate to drink it or bathe in it. It's considered the lowest assignment in the entire empire, with some considering it to be worse than death since they're practically exiled from daily life.

The Grandberry Plaza If you follow the lake, you'll conveniently end up in the Grandberry Plaza, a hotbed for the denizens of this grand empire to mingle and do business! To your left you will find the shopping area, where you can buy the best quality items on all of Earthbread. The best fabrics, the best juices, anything less would be unacceptable! To your right is the commons' piazza. You'll find most people here communing to schools, eating at restaurants, touring the parks, the works. Weirdly enough, there's a strange tension in the air... The centerpiece of the piazza is the Pavilion. The Pavilion serves as the mouthpiece of the royal family. A messenger(or sometimes the king himself) will appear among the commoners and deliver royal decrees, general lectures, and announcements. A great way to stay informed. When declarations aren't being made, novice musicians will use the area to practice.

Keep going, and you'll find the housing district. This is where all the wonderful civilians live. Houses are divided among class level; the more elaborate the house, the richer the family(though even the commoners seem to have relatively fancy houses already...) At the very end are the Noble Houses, tall and grand and full of endless splendor. Each level has a few guards stationed in random parts of that level, to ensure the utmost security of the cookies living there.

The last place of interest is the academic square. From basic education to specialized schooling, you'll find plenty of places to expand your mind. Haven't decided where you want to go? Each school has a little demonstration to show what skills they teach. Remember, you can choose one or you can choose multiple! Just never none.

Baneberry Palace Royal apartments, a massive ballroom, gardens with exotic plants, sparkling berry juice baths?! The Baneberry Palace has everything a cookie could need to become their best selves! You'll find that this isn't just the home of the royals, however. The Baneberrian Army not only trains on castle grounds, but they also eat and sleep here too! The Captain ensures that each soldier receives the most rigorous of training; any stragglers are cut and any overachievers are moved up to higher levels.

Many cookies aspire to live at the Baneberry Palace. They say if you've reached beyond the limits of what a cookie can achieve, Baneberry herself will reward you with a seat in her courtroom. You'll be showered with gifts, be sponsored by the royal family, and achieve the life of your dreams. You would be seen as a god among cookie-kind.

Incubation Chamber Behind all of the glitz and glamour of the empire, behind the gold and white icing on the floor, beneath the imposing sugar throne... is a humble glass dome. Within it holds a strange and colorful egg. The remnants of a perfect war. Workers are seen raising the temperature, throwing all manner of imperfection into a blazing inferno. Only the most trusted of Baneberry's entourage know of this place. Even less are allowed access into the chamber.

BACKSTORY

The Birth of Ambition Itself

When the land was still warm, the Virtues were given the world to help shape and guide creation. The Virtue of Happiness, eager to begin her work, was the first to claim her territory among the Five. Through nothing but her immense strength, she shaped the rocks and earth to create a kingdom where all could truly be happy. ...At least, that's what her citizens will tell you. Regardless of how she created the Berry Kingdom, The Queen Mother ensured that no cookie under her rule would ever shed a tear in vain.

Still, just because she was a queen didn't mean she couldn't spread her wings. Metaphorically speaking, of course. Baneberry enjoyed stepping down from her throne to mingle with commoners and the riffraff. She danced in the streets, she sung, she would get into fights, and she loved every moment of it! Baneberry was such a force of charisma the other cookies would begin planning their biggest parties and festivals around her appearances. Another habit of hers was to go outside the kingdom on hunting trips, capturing any creature interesting enough, and then telling stories of her adventures to the other royals. Sometimes she would even bring the other virtues along, the most common attendees being a gleaming goddess and the pinnacle of all knowledge.

Time, however, would not be kind to Baneberry Cookie. The world was starting to shift, however slowly. The lands just beyond her borders were becoming uninhabitable. The area became flavorless; nothing could be grown, plants began to wither away, and the heat intensified. As if that wasn't enough, news about the failed assassination in the Cacao Kingdom had began to reach foreign ears. Baneberry had been summoned by the other Virtues to evaluate the situation, which meant she would have to leave the kingdom. She had left in the past before, but never for this long, and never for anything serious. As a precaution she left her son, Royal Berry Cookie, in charge of protecting the kingdom in her absence. With that, she left her kingdom.

Alas... Tragedy would strike, one no one could have foreseen. In the queen's absence, an unknown dragon descended on the kingdom and began to wreak havoc. In spite of Royal Berry's and the royal army's best efforts, the sudden siege would prove to be disastrous. Homes were destroyed, many were injured, and some were even crumbled. Still, the worst had yet to happen. As the palace set ablaze, the nursery wall began to collapse. The princess consort managed to grab one child from the fire, but when she went back for the other, the dragon's tail fell and crushed everything. By the time Baneberry had returned, the dragon already claimed the palace for themselves. With her power she managed to make them retreat, but the damage had been done. Many cookies were homeless, in critical condition, or had died.

Including Baneberry's granddaughter.

When the Queen Mother pushed through the charred remains of the nursery, all they found of the child was a single hand, burnt to a char and still warm to the touch. The kingdom grieved, mourning everything they had lost. Baneberry wouldn't be seen at this time, choosing instead to stay with her family in the remnants of her palace. Many thoughts raced through the queen's head, but one seemed to always prevail.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "...Nevermore."

The days that came after would consist of tending to the wounded and rebuilding the kingdom. In those fragile, fragile times, the cookies came together to support one another. Gifts and materials were sent from the Fae and the Vanillians as a show of support. Baneberrians shared resources with each other. The Royal Family, as a show of their strength, helped their citizens wherever they could, with Baneberry managing their progress. Soon, the kingdom managed to be repaired, but Baneberry wasn't satisfied with the results. "What if that foul lizard returned," she worried, a hand clutching at her soul jam, "what if they returned and finished what they started? What if I won't be able to protect them? What if this can't make them happy?" Thus she began to fortify the kingdom's buildings. When Baneberry was complete, she looked at everything again and decided more needed to be done. So she began to rebuild anew. Each house grew with each pass, becoming more intricate and fortified. When she finally felt a sense of satisfaction, she stopped and looked at the royal guard.

"This isn't good enough, either..!"

A pattern began to emerge; Baneberry would find something she considered to be unsatisfactory, and attempt to improve it over and over until she finally felt satisfied. And even then, that wouldn't be the end of her work. Sometimes a thing that had seemed passable or even good before would become unacceptable in her eyes, and it needed to be started over from scratch. Sometimes an area or a building would be perfected, but she thought it could become more, and pushed it so it would grow. Sometimes it wasn't just buildings. Sometimes it was the cookies around her. Baneberry began strengthening the royal guard, her subjects, her family, and most notably, herself. She would go for days without seeing the outside world, trying to deepen her connection with the soul jam. When that wasn't enough, she began searching for mere baubles and trinkets to improve her strength, and when it still wasn't enough, she pushed her body to the brink. Her family tried to intervene, but stopped when she began to lash out.

Baneberry's ambition grew so much, the slits in her eyes and fangs in her maw became a testament to her will.

One day, her empire was good enough to finally declare war on the monster that had ruined everything. With a zealous heart, Baneberry pressed forward into no man's land with nothing but the shield on her back and a small army. She returned with the beating heart of an overgrown lizard and all of her soldiers unscathed. ...Just in time to begin fighting alongside the other beasts.

Whoops. My hand slipped. I've gone and done it again, I've redesigned a beast. But I have a good reason this time! I'm working on her segment, so why not give her a new outfit? Also I'm buzzing off BY Chap. 10, sue me-

So here is Baneberry Cookie! Again! Now with more French influence. No seriously, I wanted to make an armored dress and ended up in a deep dive of French Fashion. The end result is this beauty here.

Baneberry Cookie

Repost because I think Tumblr killed the first one. Brief explanation, I posted this an hour ago and it was doing well! I check the tags and this post isn't showing up at ALL. If anyone knows what might've happened, I would love an explanation. Anyways, thank you to everyone who liked that first post, I really do appreciate it! I'm glad you like her as much as I do!

Here's a fun fact about Baneberry for compensation: She's the third hero in the AU to corrupt. While on her trip, a messenger from her kingdom finds her and gives her the news that a dragon took over. When she comes back, the entire kingdom is in chaos. She finds them, beats them up and realizes she barely managed to beat it. That worries her because even after all the work she put in, she's only barely strong enough to take back her kingdom. She starts to turn from there as she tries to be stronger for everyone.
