Vegan Banketstaaf (Dutch Almond Pastry)
Banketstaaf (Dutch Christmas Log) Looking for easy dessert recipes with puff pastry? This EASY Dutch Christmas Log is an easy Christmas dessert idea!
Dutch Almond Christmas Ring/Celebration Christmas Wreath/Roomboter Banketstaaf/Banket
A flaky pastry (often made into a ring or sometimes into a straight log or a letter - see previous post on Dutch chocolate letters!) filled with an almond ganache. When it’s made into a letter, it’s known as a banketletter!
Here we have a photo of a cheapo one I bought from my local Hoogvliet supermarket... but there are lots of different types and sizes! Around the Christmas season, a lot of bakeries will be making these bad boys for the hungry mouths of festive Nederlanders!
I’ll be honest, the first time I tried it, I wasn’t too into it. Whoa, whoa, hear me out, it’s because I’ve never really been too into almond-y or marzipan-y things! However, it’s still actually surprisingly moreish. It’s something that’s definitely on my list of things to learn how to bake!
