the fool - katie

the fool represents new beginnings and a person right at the beginning of an adventure, but reversed it can mean you’re being reckless, or more specifically careless towards the feelings of others. *makes wide sweeping gestures towards the whole of bf!katie’s story so far* it’s all about naïveté and potential and optimism do you understand me

the magician - el

look the magician couldn’t not be a mage. bf!el seems to be very neutral lawful and the magician represents logic, intelligence, and focus. it’s also about someone setting out on a journey and having the willpower to get where you want to go, and el came to blue to “spread her wings” and make her own way.

the high priestess - shan

hear me out this card is usually a sign to trust your intuition, and in reverse means a lack of faith in yourself and maybe letting yourself be led by other people. I am not too caught up on bf!shan lore but she’s got the memory loss thing going on, believes that she’s done something terrible but doesn’t know for sure. she also seems to be going along with nom’s reign (and the war in general) despite being clearly so so uncomfortable with all of it. I’m approaching bf!shan with self-confidence hidden behind my back like somebody trying to give their pet medicine. anyway that’s our tall queen who is so much more level headed than everyone currently in positions of power

the empress - red kingdom

honestly this is mostly because blue is so emperor but like. what was red created with the aim to be but the opposite of blue. exactly. they also make a point of welcoming people in no matter what their background is and the empress is associated with supportiveness and compassion towards the people around them (everyone say yippee gender roles)

the emperor - blue kingdom

the most blue kingdom coded anything ever and I say this as a red supporter and therefore completely unbiased. it symbolises tradition, rigidity, logic, and authority figures who mean well but come across overly harsh or controlling. which. yeah.

the hierophant - knights

it’s the conformity and traditional beliefs/values card and who is more committed to any of that than the knights. I do not mean that as a positive somebody please tell them it’s ok to stray off the beaten track you can break the rules this once it’ll be ok pleas

the lovers - yuri free space

look. it’s the lovers. this one’s not that deep. it could be either bek and el or cherri and apo I could go either way

the chariot - owain

represents achieving goals through determination and discipline. *unintelligible shrug-adjacent hand gestures* owain. on the negative side it can also mean that you’ve become too fixated on the course you’re on and can’t see that maybe you’re going about it in a bad way. *hand gestures become more unintelligible and more violent* OWAIN.

justice - bek

the justice card often refers specifically to the law and consequences of actions, which fits bek “carry out the will of the monarch and wreak vengeance upon our enemies with all due urgency” ofhouseyamon, and it’s associated with fairness and integrity, so really how could it knight harder. on the other hand ser bek’s blind loyalty to the monarch is often more of a flaw than a virtue, so HOW CONVENIENT that justice reversed represents unfairness and corruption wow isn’t that crazy

the hermit - frogue

this guy literally exiled himself in order to build a gambling hall in the middle of nowhere. the reversed meanings - because let’s be so for real frogue’s negative traits are at the wheel at all times - include paranoia and isolation, and even before he went all evil king he was always looking for reasons to be suspicious of the rest of the kingdom

wheel of fortune - rogues

this one may be reaching I’m not gonna lie but wheel of fortune symbolises major changes and the way life is always moving forwards out of our control, which does give me rogue class vibes in general. it can also represent luck and destiny, which is funny considering the rogues contain some of the biggest farklers

strength - apo

of course she’s strength look at her spear. could you have a spear that fancy and not be the strength card? I didn’t think so. this one’s usually about emotional strength and overcoming self-doubt and lack of confidence. she’s so brave but so anxious and so insecure oh our beloved child soldier who’s only just started seeing herself as a person oh nooooo

the hanged man - 4c

Guy Who Is Going Through It. can mean feeling confined and trapped… perhaps in hell? perhaps being trapped in hell? by god? perchance? or even in a cage, one might say? it can also mean putting off an important decision - such as telling your best friend you betrayed him by accident? perchance? - and having to make a sacrifice and enter a state of inaction in order to gain perspective. which. I sure HOPE all the suffering will end up with him in a better headspace. also thinking about how hanging is a method of execution and he’s had two separate bounties on his head now…

death - sausage

no listen. it’s not just because of the necromancy I promise I PROMISE. LISTEN. death card doesn’t actually represent death so much as life changes and sudden upheaval. it also advises that resisting these changes is dangerous and you need to accept the way that things are. bf!sausage has always been the person forcing everyone else to reckon with the situation they’re in, e.g. he would have made sure everyone found out about the prince’s murder if it didn’t happen on its own. and given that he’s now talking about a prophecy about katie and nom, that puts his insistence that they have to fight each other AND his association with the inevitable in a new light. his eagerness for violence and chaos does often come across as overzealous, but he knows that the kingdoms are at war and it will all end in bloodshed, and he won’t let anyone forget it. in this essay I will

temperance - graecie

it’s temperance ok. it’s peace and balance and calmness and all sorts of excellent things. it also means perspective and wisdom and who has more of that than the world’s best advice giver. bannerfall graecie you have the patience of a saint and none of these people deserve you

the devil - cam

he’s been possessed by the devil. he made a deal with the devil. nobody can out-devil bannerfall cambam. and this card can mean that you feel powerless, as though a negative influence has control of you. it’s literally flawless. on top of that it’s associated with manipulation, obsession and concealment. devil from the bible get a job stay away from him

the tower - nom

literally who else has enough villainous aura. it’s the one card nobody ever wants to see aka PURE UNADULTERATED CATASTROPHE. it’s the very worst and most alarming of omens. it’s bannerfall nom 100%

the star - mae

as the card that follows the tower in the fool’s journey, the star represents hope for the future and finding peace after disaster. bf!mae has Been Through The Horrors and she’s so so sad but she doesn’t let it change the kind of person she is. the reversed meaning is despair which I fear she does not lack. and when you consider that the star is the calm after the storm that is the tower and bf!nom is the tower and he’s the one wrecking her world right now?? thinking about how she told him the difference between the two of them is the way they respond to trauma because she doesn’t let anything make her cruel. that’s our freaking icon. and on top of everything her mentor literally signed his name as “star” in her animatic because they used to look at them together??? 10/10 no notes

the moon - scott

look I did want to put apo and cherri as the moon and sun. I DID. but the moon in tarot is all about illusions and emotions and it’s not very bf!apo. it IS however very bf!scott whose magic is illusions-based and is canonically triggered by emotions. before being sent to blue some of the only magic he could do was turning invisible involuntarily, triggered by negative feelings. moon card moon card moon card. also the emotions it’s most associated with are insecurity, anxiety, and fear, because this guy can’t have a good day ever.

the sun - kitty

positivity and joy and bringing light to everyone around you and who in bannerfall is more beloved than the neurodivergent stray cat. it’s also associated with truth and shining light on things that are hidden, and in the prince/frogue situation kitty was the one to vouch for katie and help get the truth out. they also told owain once that they don’t really have secrets. the sun card is about finding happiness even after the turmoil of the previous cards and kitty has gone through all the horrors and somehow stayed kind and whimsical she’s the literal sun fight me

judgement - cherri

judgement means transformation and significant personal change. IN OTHER WORDS, life developments brought about by realisations you have about yourself. thinking about cherrifire captioning her new knight character art with “finally feeling like myself” and the judgement spiritual awakening idea yes yes excellent. according to some sources it can even represent homesickness it’s just win after win for me

the world - mages

*kicks a sign saying “these were the last two left” behind me* anyway this is the card at the end of the metaphorical journey representing completeness and fulfilment and one must consider that mages are the class with the most range. even if they tend to specialise in one area they can harness pretty much any force in, one might say, the world. also bf!cherri’s talked about how mages always describe using magic as “digging deep” and things like that which fits well with the idea of awareness and self-actualisation which this card is all about. it’s true what they said in high school english literature any answer is the correct answer if you can come up with good reasons
