god bless ted lasso for giving us an actual in universe app that fanfic writers can use for every you've-got-mail-like story you could imagine. it's one of my favourite tropes and it's just there, built into the show. life is so good right now.

So I’m watching Ted Lasso again and in Season 2

Episode 3, Keeley asks the boys to join Bantr and Richard asks how it’s spelled. After she spells it, Colin says “Like Grindr.” They told us and we didn’t know!!!!!

Another stellar Ted Lasso episode this week. I see Richmond found themselves a new sponsor after telling Dubai Air to fuck right off. I do love attention to detail. Yay Bantr!

Having remembered that Keeley first asked the Richmond team to help promote Bantr by joining the app, saying that the idea of being able to talk to a hot pro footballer would really boost the app, I got to thinking like. How would that help, when the whole point of the app is to use handles and not have photos? How would people know that AFC Richmond players were on the app? Which then led me to THIS idea: Bantr ads shot like dating sim games.

-ENTER SCENE-

[Several scenes of impressive soccer plays cut in quick succession set over clubbing music]

-A voiceover of Dani saying "Football is life!" as the footage cuts through multiple shots of him making a goal like he did in the S1 finale-

-"I'd let you score on me anytime," Zoreaux says as he makes a particularly-impressive save and grins winningly at the camera-

Ted Lasso, Season 3 Speculation/Spoilers

Don’t read if you don’t want to think about possible ideas for next season.

So, those of us who have rewatched the series a few times know the attention to detail put into Ted Lasso. I think a lot of clues are given with people’s phones (e.g.texts). Overall, I haven’t found many boo-boos.

So a while back there was a thread about how Bantr was a poorly put together app for the show.

Some of the issues were the distances of the match-ups, how the symbol for male is used for all the people on the app and how the name “MaLeLeGeNd1” is a suggestion for both Rebecca and Sam.

I just feel that there are no “mistakes” that big in the show and I do wonder if Bantr is either going to come out as a faulty app AND/OR if it’s a cover for something like illegal data mining. To me, it always seemed like a convenient plot device that Bantr just happened to be ready and waiting to sponsor a football team at the right moment. (No disrespect to Keeley, I think she hustles for her work!)

Looking more closely at the names, we know that Rebecca is Bossgirl and Sam is LDN152.

Similar information! I am leaning towards it be a data mining type of app being used to get information about its customers… and perhaps leaking that information which could mean the Sam/Rebecca plot line could get more complicated. I also have a theory that the VC was always run by Rupert who is playing the long game with revenge on Rebecca (and Ted). So the sloppy duplication of online names might be to give the viewer clues.

On a different note, my other guess is that MaLeLeGeNd1 is Ted and the show has pulled a double bait and switch. They gave that hint in Rainbow (S2 Ep5) that Rebecca and Ted were texting on Bantr only to reveal that Rebecca and Sam were texting. But if you look closely, Rebecca had also been texting with MaLeLeGeNd1 on Bantr and the last thing he said was “It’s very hard to believe”.

So am I trying too hard? This is what one does with months before the new season!
