Id say that @tabzanite is the youngest really done with everything cousin, they just randomly appear and just seem done. I wanna put that Im older but then Id have like5 people tryna cancel me.

     connor scans the counter again, looking for familiar saint bernard hairs on the seats. he comes across nothing of interest. no scuffs in the shape of hank’s shoe-print, no “jimmy’s bar” matches, no contact in his phone with the name of his partner. he doesn’t know why he ended up in here again, in a dingy bar in the middle of the night, looking for answers he knew he would never find. he feels like he knows nothing now. the only thing he can do to remedy the situation is learn. observe. wait. he scanned the faces over and over, waiting for a familiar match to ping in his hud, with nothing came. the android flexes his toes against the bar stool and puts his hands together in his lap, watchful eyes gazing into the small inebriated crowd. 

     “hey bub, you can’t just sit there creepin’ people out all night. dead-eyed n’ shit. buy something or get out.”

     connor blinks a few times at a bulky bartender leaning over the wood. it yanks him out of his thoughts, and a glance at his running programs tells him that he’s been sitting here for 42 minutes and 28 seconds. ❝ i’m sorry, ❞ he begins, giving the softest nod of apologies. ❝ i don’t drink. ❞

      the man quirks a brow at him, but before he can offer alternatives or challenge the android’s presence, connor’s scanning the nearly-empty glass of the person sitting next to him and ordering another one of their preferred beverage. the drink hastily finds it’s place on the table and connor scoots to the edge of his seat, gently pushing it over to the stranger. ❝ here, ❞ he states lightly as he initiates a social protocol.  ❝ another round on me. ❞

&&  — THERE’S A CERTAIN, SPECIAL KIND OF HUMILIATION YOU GET WHEN YOU’RE STOOD UP ON A DATE , vienna’s eyes moving from the drink in front of her to the door , hoping that maybe , possible , the cute girl she met at the diner the other day would walk through those doors. maybe she’s just in traffic ?? granted , it’s not that traffic around the saturnalia was that bad , much less at 8 pm when everyone was finally starting to settle in for the night. the defeat was finally starting to settle over her after finally , she heard the door open again , only to find that , well . . . it wasn’t her. it was enough to make her sink back in her seat , the confident aura she often carried with herself now dissipating as she swore she felt her ego shatter. wow , this was shit. turning to face the person closest to her , she cleared her throat , trying to act as if this was all just a coincidence and that she hadn’t been waiting for someone. after all , nothing was worse to her than showing that kind of emotion. “ so , i’ve heard people say this place is better than the burlesque but honestly i don’t fucking know. what do you think ?? ” it’s dumb , but it’s something.

he had survived the event. that was already heroic. miles had smiled through speeches, nodded through handshakes, managed to endure three conversations on leadership, two on legacy, one exchange with someone referring to football as the last honest institution to someone that could care less, and exactly eight different scoldings.

the afterparty was supposed to be easier. it was not. it was just the same room with a looser tie.

the bar had been rented out for the occasion, all low amber lighting and sticky leather chairs. alumni clustered near the fireplace while donors occupied the less-sticky tables. a handful of athletes moved through the room like living proof that the entire day had a face, good shoulders, and a white-picket-fence future.

he barely managed to escape. not far, just to the quieter hallway outside the bar, near a trophy case with glass pulsing with the surrounding music. not exactly privacy, but close enough for a man who had spent most of his life learning how to disappear. his back was against the wall, tie loose and jacket wide open.

a burst of laughter came from inside, followed by the door opening and spilling noise into the hallway. he glanced up, prepared to fix himself quickly as to avoid scolding number nine. it was @dreadbound. he recognized the quarterback from earlier. confident enough in miles' eyes to look like a worthy investment. he'd sigh, roll his eyes, and shift over. “ let me guess. you also hit your annual limit for inspirational conversations with men who really earned the name dick. ”
