Barbara Barnes was a 13-year-old Harding Middle School student from Steubenville. Barbara was known to be a quiet and reserved young girl who was excelling in school. She was also a member of the school choir. She lived with her mother, Kathy Barnes, and her younger sister and brother. Tragically Barbara’s father, Gary Thomas Barnes, was shot to death in January of 1989. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the only tragedy in the Barnes’ lives.
At around 7:35AM on the 7th of December, 1995, Barbara was seen by classmates walking along Brady Avenue. She was las heading towards the school. When Barbara didn’t arrive at school that morning, she was reported missing and a search party was assembled. They searched Union Cemetery, Mount Calvary Cemetery and Beatty Park, all near where Barbara was last seen by her classmates.
The FBI was called in to assist because of Barbara’s young age and the possibility that she could have crossed the state line. While there was no sign of Barbara, it was soon announced that the most likely scenario was that she was abducted as she walked home from school.
In February of 1996, Barbara’s body was found by surveyors in a riverbed near the Pittsburgh International Airport, around 30 miles from where she was last seen. It was determined that Barbara had been raped and strangled shortly after she vanished. Her killer had then partially submerged in mud but flowing water washed away some of the mud, exposing her body. Her body was discovered a short distance from the home of her uncle, Louis Boyce. He was questioned by police and reportedly failed a lie detector test.
While the murder remains unsolved, journalist and true crime author, James Renner, has published a theory that the murder may be connected to the murders of Tina Harmon, Krista Harrison, Deborah Smith, and Amy Mihaljevic.
Is it true that Diana fired Barbara Barnes because she got to close to the boys?
There are lots and lots of rumours about her departure blaming everyone from Diana to the Queen herself, but the statement at the time just said that with William starting school it was felt it was right for her to move on. Nothing else has been proven
Is there a list of the nannies PH and PW had and facts about them? I can remember one of them helped W&K with George when he was a newborn, was she Tiggy? Plus, not to spread hate towards Diana, but if she was a bitch towards a woman who she thought was sleeping with Charles, that's not feminism at all!!
I don’t know of any lists of nannies but the four major royals are Jessie Webb, Olga Powell, Barbara Barnes and Tiggy Legge-Bourke. I’ll give you pictures and rough dates:
Jessie Webb- Employed from around 1990-1992 and came back to be George’s nanny for a few weeks:
Olga Powell- Employed from William’s birth until 1997 when Diana died. William cancelled engagements to go to her funeral. She started as a junior nanny and worked her way up:
Barbara Barnes- Nanny from William’s birth until 1987. Olga took over as head nanny at that point. There’s an article on the controversy it caused when she resigned here.
Tiggy Legge Bourke- Perhaps the most famous of their nanny’s. She joined as Charles’s nanny for the boys after the split in 1993 and stayed with the family until 1999. Diana really didn’t like her and revealed that Tiggy miscarried in front of everyone.
