Hair Spell

Brushed the hair, from ends to base

Untangled now, made room for grace.

Calendula, savila, silver and clay.

Ingredients mixed, keep fear at bay.

Water cleansed and mineral bless.

Wind blown from hand, a strengthened tress.

Oil of orchid, a confidence must.

To shine, protect and heal, we trust.

Heat of fire, held close in hand.

Seal the spell, and seal the plan.

A single strand kept close and used,

A knot tied thrice, a charm a muse.

Go forth, turn heads, and brighten the tragic,

Your curls your crown, cast forth your magic.

I’m going to school to be a hair dresser, and I was wondering whether or not you use your craft in your everyday work life. If so, what is it you do?

So I knew I was going to able to get to this today, which is why I posted a hair spell last night :)

I do! Not always, but I do.

The salon is where I debuted my Earl Grey Shortbread. Bit of kitchen witchery to add fortune and peace to the clients in the shop.

I’ll go through what that hairspell is actually referring to.

Visualizing stress, cloudy thoughts, and everything negative that comes from the mind being shaken up as you massage the scalp and check for regrowth, undertones in the color, scalp condition etc as part of the consultation.

Brushing out the hair and pulling that negativity that got loosened up to the floor to be trampled by your feet as you walk around.

Our color line has calendula, rice protein, aloe vera, argan oil and I will base certain spells off those ingredients (rice-multiplying effects, aloe-healing, cooling, growth, calendula/marigold-guidance, peace, argan-strengthening, rising above etc) so when I’ve got color in their hair processing, it’s a small ritual. Sectioning the hair and applying it, letting the intention soak in.

Clay balayage lightener being of earth and grounding the client. Literally smearing earth on their hair.

Washing? Hell, that’s literal cleansing and water. Depending on scalp condition I may add a drop or two of tea tree to the shampoo. Washing away anything else I need to and invigorating them, further focusing on the intent. Conditioner acts as a base seal of the spell (and cuticle) sealing your initial intent in.

Styling products are a bit more varied, but the correspondences are the purpose. Dry shampoo meant to lift and give volume, texture and longevity? That means it gives stamina and manageability/control. Serums with lavender, orchid, other flowers either in active ingredient or scent lend those herbal correspondences as well as healing (because that’s what serums do...they help heal the hair.) texture sprays have sea salt in them so...salt.

You can incorporate knot magic with certain braids, glamour, cleansing, healing and all that jazz, and you also literally have a bin full of taglocks.

I’ve talked about them before and different hinge I do from diffusing specific oils and scents for different clients and seasons, tarot readings for clients. It can be used if you want but you don’t have to. Doing hair well is a magic on its own understanding the alchemy of turning straw into gold...with a treatment and toner.

Witch Tip Wednesday 12.13.17

Haul out the holly…

Hello my pretties! Today’s witch tip is about incorporating your craft into the holiday decor that is deckin your halls, and gay-ing your Yuletide.

Witch balls are a common protective item that come from Celtic background. They were hung in windows and doorways to protect the home from spirits, the fae and…yes, witches.

They made their way to trees when Roman/Christian influences made their way to the British isles. Saturnalia has a tradition of being like Opposite Day. Bring your trees inside and the celts pretty much said “now we have a tree? What do we do with all these balls? Just stick them on the tree I guess?”

This is super simplified history with a sarcastic tinge so…yeah.

Anyway. Ornaments already have a witchy background so get back to your roots and fill those clear bulbs with spices and herbs that make you think of home, protection, family, hope, whatever! And don’t be limited by herbs, do you associate fond memories with the year grandma put the whole eggs in the cookies and you guys bit into chocolate chip eggshell cookies? Toss them in. Remember the year you spilled peppermint extract and the room wreaked for weeks? If you weren’t permanently scarred, add in some peppermint.

If you don’t have all the stuff you want, draw it, roll it into a tube and drop it in, it’ll expand and fill the bulb with your pretty art.

Write poems or sigils, song lyrics or wishes for the new year and drop those in.

Each year you pull them out to decorate, you’ll have a familiar twinge as you get to your witchball(s) of the previous year. Look at them, remember making them and your hopes, and reflect on if those came to pass.

It makes a new tradition that’s actually quite old. Remember, ‘‘tis the Heathen!

Witch Tip Wednesday 12.6.17

Hey all! Another Witch Tip Wednesday is here and today’s theme is:

One man’s trash, is a witch’s treasure.

When you have a favorite piece of clothing that either doesn’t fit, has stretched, shrunk or got stained, don’t toss it! Instead, salvage the fabric and find a needle.

You can use the fabric to recover a grimiore, or make a spirit fetish, poppet or keep it simple and make sachets! Have a good size square? Incorporate it into an altar cloth or tarot cloth! It’s connected to your energy already, so go for it.

Additional tip, if you’re throwing a ruined button down out, save the buttons. You can use them to make a closure on your project, or incorporatethen into spell work

Life update for those who care. 🦇New job is going well. 🦇Boyfriend and I are going to be filling for domestic partnership (I guess that means I'm engaged?) 🦇My clients at the salon are booking more consistently and so the hair salon is doing well. 🦇We're opening a new barbershop next to the salon, and that's what this picture is of, one of the sitting areas at the front of shop. With that said, I'm utterly exhausted. Still getting over this stupid cold, waking up at 6 Monday-Friday and working till 5, then seeing a clients after so not getting home till 9 at least. Saturday's working at the salon 8-8 and sundays are setting up the barbershop. I'm trying to post original witchy stuff for y'all, but, this is my life right now. Just wanted to let you guys know I love you, I appreciate you, and just want a huge Tumblr hug from all my witches. Cheers (now back to working on my client 😅)
