So it’s been reported that a lot of the cars have been quite bumpy especially at high speeds, this effect is called porpoising, due to the rising and lowering of the car looking like how a porpoise moves through the water.
This will probably been ironed out in time as they learn more of the characteristics of the car, the new tyres and the changes that had to be made to the suspension, but there is a chance it won’t be fixed.
Basically the bouncing means that energy is being lost, when it could be better directed towards the performance.
Porpoising was an issue with the old ground effect cars and it could be caused by a whole host of issues.
Williams, Alpine and Aston Martin have been reported as being the bumpiest, with Red Bull being unstable in the brake zone.
