Hello, everyone!
Today is a special day for me. One year ago today, I wrote and published my first poem, Toenail Moon, to my DeviantArt account. At the time, I didn't think much of it beyond the fact that it was something fun to write. I thought that it would be a one-off entry to my account. Little did I know that I would end up writing another poem, then another, and another. And now here I am, with 75 poems posted so far and more on the way.
It's certainly been an interesting and wonderful journey for me. I had never thought of myself as a poet before, merely because my views of poetry had been so limited by what I had learned in schools. It was so hard to try and conform to what I was supposed to be writing. But writing in my own style and finding my own voice has been so amazing. Finding my own ways to express myself has been so freeing. From the digitally posted poems on DA and here on my Tumblr account, to the handwritten poems on my Instagram. Even deciding to handwrite my poems on Instagram was a huge leap for me because I was not sure if my handwriting would legible enough to read. Yet the fact that so many of you have found my poems and decided to stick around means so much to me, as does all of the encouragement, comments, and support you have given me. From the bottom of my heart, I truly, deeply thank you.
Here's to one year of poetry, and here's to many more to come.
Cheers!
