Food for thought: Baby's first real foods.. When to give and what to give has been argued between professionals and mothers for a really long time. For me, both my children were given mushy rice first. My daughter was about 4 months which is early, she had the worst reflux I've ever seen. The rice helped keep things down. For my son he didn't get rice until 7 months then each month we added something new, sweet potatoes, organic corn. By 9 months (pictured) he was on to green veggies. (Food before 1 is just for FUN) We waited to give him fruits because we wanted to have him used to veggies and lower sugar foods. I had heard stories of friends giving their babies fruits first and then struggling with veggies. I didn't want to make veggies the bad guy's. Years later, my kids (now 8 &10) eat a variety of veggies and fruits, by variety I mean Brussel sprouts, green peppers, Avocados, mushrooms, kale, asparagus, papaya, passion fruit and so on. Is this because of how I fed them as infants? Maybe, but I think its more likely because I didn't ever say "they wont like this" or "ew" infront of them. Rather I took them as toddlers every shopping trip to the produce section and had them pick out one new veggie and one new fruit. Did they LOVE everything they tried? Ha ha no. But they at least tried which is the most important thing I believe. Having them involved fed their curiosity, which fed their mind and bodies.
