This week's #mikumonday and #gumigetsuyoubi aren't school themed, like I had planned: rather, they're themed after Sukeban Game's VA-11 HALL-A (Valhalla) which is one of my favorite games of this decade.
In May -on 5/30, actually- VA-11 HALL-A will be getting a Japanese release on Switch and PS4. I've ordered both, primarily because I really get a kick out of collecting merch from the series. It's been on my mind off and on all week, and when I sat down to create this week's sketch, I knew I
I actually used the Japanese cover as inspiration: it features a shoeless Jill Stingray in her jacket, with her hair lifted up as she falls and a simple drink in a martini glass. I then pulled colors and elements of Miku and Gumi's basic vocaloid outfits, played around, and found a design I really like. This is the end result, and I have to say... I really like it.
I tried a bit of a different kind of coloring, which I also used last week. I'm really letting myself play around with how I color and finish drawings lately. It's quite different from last year where my coloring was a bit less risky.
I'll admit, I'm still feeling a bit stuck, but bit by bit, I think I'm growing. I can feel myself on the cusp of leveling up, and while I wish I was producing more art and drawing more often, I'm also glad to enjoy the wonder of seeing myself grow.
Miku Monday and the new Gumi Getsuyoubi tags are really helping that.
I think that I'll bring you all high school designs of Miku and Gumi next week, since the Sakura are still blooming. For now, please enjoy this week's art: I'll be back with new pieces soon!
