Baby dog earned her RATO and I could not be more proud
We went to our very first Barn Hunt trial and Arthur got a Q and third place! Yay!!!
He would have gotten 2 Qs if his handler wasn't stupid. 🤦♀️ He told me multiple times where the rat was on our second go and I didn't call it. He didn't Q his Instinct run because he was too busy checking every single hay bale instead of investigating the 3 tubes all lined up in a row. Oh well, maybe next time. He did so so well with independently searching in all of his runs, and he climbed up on bales and did the tunnels all by himself. They had the Novice cources nested with the more advanced ones, so they actually had a bigger tunnel with a turn in the ring that was not required but counted as a tunnel, and he did that one as well as the smaller straight novice tunnel!
Overall it went really really well, and I intend to do more ratting trials for sure. Unfortunately this was the only BHA trial of the year anywhere nearby. But we can trial in Rats! Canada. The rules are just a bit different. Personally I really like the tunnel and climbing requirements in BHA, and that I can talk to and encourage him the whole time if needed.

👑Queen of Barn Hunt 👑
We went with a friend who brought two dogs. They have already done this before so she went first with with dogs. Hek had plenty of time to investigate the space, say hi to the rats, and find a comfortable bed to settle on.
This is our second time actually searching. We worked on having Hek actually engage with the tube rather than her doing a sit. It only took one time finding the tube and me encouraging her to really get going! She had no problems going over, around, through every obstacle. The one thing Hek didnt just do on her own was the weave tunnel. It took her maybe two minutes, and putting the rat on the other end, for her to go through!
work, work, work... but reppin' my dogs FAVORITE sport.
Vida and Skadi both got their RATI today, and Skadi got 2 of the 3 legs of her RATN and placed second in both of her novice runs!
