Okay sooo I was reminded of this pokemon movie a while back and this specific character and I remember I thought he was cute when I was younger... and bruh my younger self was onto something 😭!! I've rewatched this movie a couple times and ughhh he is fuckin cute. He's so funny and so full of himself and a lil pathetic.

I really love him. And the movie is really good. LOWKEY peak cinema xD. I was surprised at how invested I was in the story and characters. Tonio and Alice are really cute and their backstory with their grandparents being important to the story is cool. Darkrai ALSO being apart of Alice's backstory is GOOD TOO. I just like how simple everything is connected??

my only real thoughts on the rise of darkrai (aside from how dialga sort of erased enough of the universe's code that giratina had to fucking go full admin banhammer on him for TWO WHOLE MOVIES) is that alice/tonio/darkrai is already a hellish enough polycule without alberto trying to get in on that.

●PMD Explorers + Rise of Darkrai similarities○

I don't know how long it takes to make a game compared to a movie and vise versa but I have a small theory that the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky and Rise of Darkrai were somewhat based off of each other during development

Or at least PMD Eo- being based off of RoD anyway

Like we have:

Time and space problems

Main character trying to save their home/world from overpowered threats (and lowkey being slightly sacrificial/suicidal tbh)

Mc getting erased from time and space momentarily

Mc somehow able to get/give prophecies/past and future events

Mc not being from their main home but is there anyway do to reasons and now calls it home

Dialga and Palkia fighting each other/mc because of later threats (Darkrai and Arceus. Yes I know the latter was in 2 movies later, whatever)

Involves getting Shaymin back to flower garden (later movie again, but still. I think that was the side quest anyway, only watched summaries/cut playthroughs/AUs of PMD Eo-)

Annoying ass character that gets in the way/makes things difficult for mc (team skull + technically Chatot I think? Somewhat? And Baron Alberto)

Character is thought to be evil, isn't and actually trying to do good (Darkrai and Grovyle)

Darkrai able to turn a human into a pokemon/their powers getting messy due to time-space related stuff

Probably more I can't think of

Anyway, I watched the trilogy for my birthday again recently and wanna talk about it, maybe talk about it more later

Now I'm just thinking of all the people who've drawn/talked about how RoD Darkrai would kick PMD Darkrai's ass if they met, cause everything that that one did. PMD Darkrai definitely wouldn't like how similar Hero and this Darkrai is either (those two are very similar in my eyes at least)

PMD AU where the Hero is just RoD Darkrai after dying, or just there and joins the Hero or whatever, and now on a mission to beat the life outta PMD Darkrai out of spite and to get back. I love the AUs of Hero/Partner Darkrai but they are Darkrai, or at least the species, its amusing

I wanna draw my different Darkrais again, they're all have special tid bits to their designs.

Should probably watch the stories/games fully and not just summaries/internet AUs knowledge (-ZA, I want to experience that one personally beside the small bits I know), I'm lazy tho

Edit: The music disks and time gears! Perfect comparison, both are disks important to the plot and calming Dialga (and Palkia) down

Also, also I think the PLA is based off of the PMD games somewhat, not as majorly at the movie, only a little, like veryyy loosely, but yeah

Something I figured out a while ago but don't think I've seen anyone mention: Darkrai and Shayman's rivals in Ingo's Path of Solitude.

In the Path of Solitude trials in the post game of Legends Arceus, EVERY Pokémon will have a rival they face, usually something that counters their type. Darkrai's rival is lickilicky and Shayman's is Magnezone.

That's because in their respective movies they both get hunted by trainers that use these two particular pokemon. Deep cut.
