I made a thing!
I’ve alway’s loved decorated bridges, and I thought Praetorius, my bass violin, would look good with one. So, after obsessing about the design on and off for a few weeks, I took the bridge down and inked it up! It’s a bit crude up close, but I’m at least 87.4% happy with how it turned out; the squid’s lower set of arms are too thin. (Let’s pretend they’re the tentacles and the other set of arms are hiding around the back.)
The design was inspired by the bridge on the 'Medici, Tuscan' viola of 1690 by Stradivari. Having a nice pair of muscular mermen holding up my strings seemed like a good idea to me!
In other news, I had planned on setting up Praetorius as a 5-string instrument again, but the sound post fell, so I’ll have to take him to my luthier and have her do it instead.
