#30 The Long Winters, David Bazan, etc
Barsuk 15th Anniversary, Night Two
HOW EXCITED WAS I FOR THIS SHOW?! Beyond.
The Neptune Theatre (still consistently my favorite venue, if you're keeping score) was a magical time machine to the early 2000's. I arrived early, swigged a quick cocktail, and made my way to front and center where I put in my time for the night. Worth it.
Sunset Valley- Really great time machine material, these guys sounded fantastic and totally took me back to delicious Seattle garage rock circa the dawn of the 21st century. Fun fun. And John Roderick milling about in the crowd didn't hurt (fangirl alert). They closed with a song called "Jackass Crusher" and won my heart forever.
Minor Alps- This one was a bit of torture. I was soooo bored. It was the guy from Nada Surf and, oh geez, some girl who I'm too disinterested to look up who she was. She's someone. Acoustic guitars and predictable harmonies. I just wanted this part to end.
David Bazan and the Passenger String Quartet- Now we're talking! Oh Pedro the Lion! So sad, who hurt you?! Dave is a delightful human and so funny when he chats between songs. But oh the songs! I love this melancholy shit, and with a hipster string section? BLISS.
The Long Winters- THE GODDAMN LONG WINTERS PLAYING WHEN I PRETEND TO FALL FROM START TO FINISH OH MY GOD YES. Glorious. Hilarious. The John Roderick - Sean Nelson Comedy Hour interspersed with some of my favorite songs of all times. Does life get better? DOES IT?
