Alright. I got a random question for y'all. If you were to pick a name that fit all these forms or just me in general (Besides Ashe), what would you choose?
I'm thinking of going with a new name for myself to separate myself from the body and while I love the name Ashe, it is getting a bit much to have everyone around refer to Ashe, I get pulled forward, and then turns out they were talking to someone in the system who isn't me. Now we could rename the body, but that's a process I'm not paying for again. So, gathering a list of potential names. I got a few already that I like, let's see what y'all think!
I'm a shapeshifter, whose species has no established name nor presence within mythology or folklore. So here I will establish what I know, and what I've come to infer with the help of @lumianaroseye, another member of my species.
(Edit: I want to mention that this is an open species to those who are interested)
Species name:
Our species has no name for our own kind. So in the nature of selecting a name as if we are creatures of mythology that humans spoke of centuries ago, the name Sinnihteage was chosen.
Pronounced See-neek-tay-ah-gay (IPA /ˈsinˌnix.te.ɑː.ɡe/), it uses old english/proto-germanic words sinnihte, meaning eternal night, and eage, meaning eye. Sinnihteage, or sometimes shortened to just nihteage, would be recognized as the official term for the species regardless of country or language. Though local pop culture the name may be translated into the local language. Such as Nighteye in English, or Nachtauge in German.
Appearance:
Our bodies exist within fourth dimensional space. Our exterior consisting of smooth, inky black void with varying levels of stardust mixed within. Silky in texture, but soft in firmness. The behavior of this material is a viscous, solid by default, but with liquid malleability.
It is a manifestation of the cosmos itself, sometimes the extremities of our form unraveling into a nebula cloud.
This exterior is what gives us shape. The interior is a luminous white plasma. This can be seen at various access points within each individual, but a constant is the eyes. For me, other points are my nose and mouth. It acts both as our life essence, and as a pocket dimension to store or draw excess mass when shapeshifting. Potentially even allowing us to teleport by using this dimension as a makeshift worm-hole.
The silhouette of our true forms have endless possibilities within members of the species. For me I am half blob/half cat in my true form. And I have a memory of spotting another member of our species within fourth dimensional space whose true form is that of a lindwyrm.
Being manifestations of space, our species is inherently sexless, but not genderless. Though labels for gender do not exist within our kind.
As of current, it is assumed that the size of a creature is directly correlated to their age. The youngest are the size of small planets, while it's estimated for the seniors to get to be the size of the sun.
Home/Habitat:
Our species wanders aimlessly and endlessly through fourth dimensional space between dimensions. We quietly observe various universes as they float along. Whether or not we did anything to interfere with these dimensions either to protect, destroy, or merely mess with them I personally do not know. Though Lumi feels as though their purpose was to protect them, and the species within them.
It was possible for our bodies to intersect with these dimensions in order to watch them more closely. Yet blending in with the rest of the cosmos, we are completely unobservable from the third dimension.
To compare it to third dimensional existence, it would be like floating through outerspace. Occasionally a really large, sheet of paper will pass by. Each paper containing infinite detail that constantly changes as time moves forward.
There is no gravity, so there is no up, down, left, or right. In all directions is an endless span of energy that pulses with a soothing fuchsia throughout the black void. It is omnipotent, filling the edges of existence itself. Never growing closer or farther regardless of how long you travel in a single direction. This energy is an entity, who is the creator of our species, and generally female presenting. Though when desiring to speak to her creations, she can appear to them in any color and form, chosen by the creation's subconcious, so long as her fuchsia is present somewhere.
While time does exist, it is unobservable, making it completely relative. There are no cycles, rotations, or revolutions to measure time with. At most we can observe years through the galaxies and planets within various universes as they continue their motions.
Behavior:
To fulfill our purpose of overseeing the various universes and the life within them, it is theorized we extended parts of ourselves into the third dimension as avatars of ourselves. We used our shapeshifting ability to appear as the inhabitants or their legends in order to reach out to them or influence the surroundings for brief moments. Once finished, we continue on with our roaming.
As a species, we are generally highly solitary creatures. We can go long, long times without so much as catching sight of another of our species. Lengths of time that would make a century on earth seem like a second. And most tend to keep it that way, to where if two members do encounter each other, no communication is exchanged and they simply pass by one another.
This desire for complete solitary is crucial for the functionality our species within our home. As even with our creator's constant comforting presence, our existence is far too isolating to form any connections.
However, on a rare occasion, a member of our species may contradict their inherent nature, and crave social connections. It can make for a maddening existence, filled with boredom and longing. This can be momentarily alleviated with a less responsible use of our shapeshifting. Projecting ourselves onto planets with sentient life in order to momentarily adopt their features, and play and interact with them until we grow exhausted and must return to our real bodies.
A quick fix will be able to help for a while, but eventually something will feel like its missing. Craving a deeper more intimate connection. In the rare case something like this happens, the creature will search for an observe a species on various planets that exhibits the kind of connection they're looking for. If that's the kind of life they want, they may voluntarily give up their form and soul, and most of their memories, to be reborn into that species.
Though most of their existence before life on that planet has been forgotten, instincts remain. A sense that weightlessness should be the natural state. Phantom limbs as a result of a drive to shapeshift and mimic features of other species. And perhaps with time, those instincts will slowly bring back memories.
