What do you make of the whole issue of Olivia Wilde saying her film is about female pleasure? She's getting lots of hate from fandom. I think this is science fiction and some suspension of disbelief (and outrage) may be required.
You don't provide a quote anon. And I haven't been able to find a quote where she says that. I may be proved wrong, but I don't think she did say that. I think people are lying about what she said to whip up hatred against her.
The quote I was able to find was this: 'When I work up the blushing courage to ask Wilde about [a scene where Harry's character goes down on Florence's character], she gets technical, talking about overhead angles and wraparound shots, though she readily volunteers that she intends for her audience to she intends for her audience to “realize how rarely they see female hunger, and specifically this type of female pleasure.”'
She's not talking about the movie as a whole she's talking about her goals in shooting that particular scene. Anyone who suggests there's any conflict between wanting that impact on the audience with that particular scene, and the wider themes of the movie as a whole is only revealing their own lack of understanding of art and storytelling.
