Not gunna lie it really bothers me when my friends think it's ok refer to me as "white passing" and say I am "half of this person and half of another." Idk it's a slap in the face hearing "well you don't look Puerto Rican, you're basically white." Like i am a person who happens to be white and hispanic, I am no less white than I am Puerto Rican and vice versa. It really hurts to hear racial slurs that are insulting to people of my same ethnicity just because my friend feels comfortable enough saying them around me because i'm "white passing" / "basically white." I have never truly embraced my hispanic side throughout the years because I felt going to a predominantly white school I had to act more white so I could be taken seriously/ set myself apart from other hispanic kids I went to school with.
