There is something I don’t understand and I need you guys to tell me what you think about it
SPOILERS AHEAD OF A PLAGUE TALE : REQUIEM
Is Basilius the first carrier or the Macula, or did other carriers and protectors exist before him and Aelia?
I really don’t know if I didn’t catch the information while playing the game, and I’m currently searching the answer to this question, but it isn’t quite clear. In Innocence, it is likely said that no one knows when the Macula first declared itself, and that there was a carrier during Justinian plague who was worshiped like a god. Therefore, in Requiem, it is said by some characters that this carrier (so Basilius) was the first one ? I don’t understand
I kind of need to know the truth about this because as I’m preparing a fan comics about Basilius and Aelia’s story, this is really important to me to don’t use false informations about the lore of the games.
And to be honest, if this lack of clarity is something inherent in the games (either done on purpose or just a plothole), I don’t even know which one is the most ... consistent? Is it the right word in English? (like in french I would have said “cohérent”, if it helps)
While Basilius being the first carrier of the Macula, it gives credit to the power he let go by reaching the last threshold, and how the members of the order are unsure of the exact origin of the Macula.
But, if Basilius really is the first one, how come the members of the order had so much knowledge of the desease? Basilius died young, like propably at the same age as Hugo, or just a little bit older, so how would it be possible to be sure of the patern of the Carrier and the Protector, knowing that the Macula travels in some families’ bloodlines, and olso which ones, and the fact that a Carrier can use their condition for good and avoid being submerged by negative emotions?
I know like all of this could have been foreshadowed in prophecies or other things, but the order is an organisation of alchemists, they’re scientists, so even if they base themselves on ancient writtings and everything, they have to verify those informations, right?
Let me know what all of you folks think about it, it would really help me
