Enjoy Beqaata en Nahr - Assi river trail, one of the best explorations you can make this summer.This natural site is located on both the Baskinta and Bqaatouta municipalities.The site shelters an incredible biodiversity with some rare and endemic species for Lebanon.The trail is a little bit adventurous, narrow passages, steel stairs with some climbing and entering into caves.The river Al Assi flows surrounded by steep cliffs. The North facing slope is the most fascinating feature of the valley with its acidic and ferruginous cliffs of sandstone that give them this vivid red color.You can take the long steel stairs leading you from the river up to the highest peak of Baskinta or continue the trail to find a beautiful waterfall that you would have to walk behind to continue your journey.You can also discover a hidden cave with dripping water droplets from above showering you with joy. This needs a little bit of climbing but the view from the inside out is mesmerizing.Take a dip in the freezing lake before resting in the nearby orchards and pine forests. The village is surrounded by the highest peaks of Metn and Keserwan and lies at the sources of the dog river (Nahr el Kalb) separating the two casas. Baskinta means “house of serenity” in Syriac. Visitors quickly feel at peace and at home in this charming village just by contemplating the old stone buildings scattered among the oaks, and the soothing landscapes of apple and cherry orchards. Baskinta carries the ruins of monuments and pottery remains that date as back as the Phoenician and the Greek ages. The Greeks knew Baskinta and built in it several palaces of which enormous stones, pillars stands, and underground passages still exist.
