the lesbeantars :3
It’s been a hot minute since I did a music thing (i think?), but I can’t really talk about learning to play bass in the mid-2000s without addressing the collective brain rot inflicted by Chris Wolstenholme.
Hysteria’s a sick line, we all know it and it became a de facto fuzz bass song, but I’m completely obsessed 22 years later with this groove: Time is Running Out.
It’s so slick! So cool! So synth-y in an era where synth pedals for bass fucking sucked and bass players were expanding their pedalboards while exploring bi-amp options. And Wolstenholme’s out here running a tri-amp rig and writing some of the tastiest lines.
I learned a lot of Muse lines growing up and I should probably give them more love.
Random kid, walking to the middle of the band room: "HELLO EVERYBODY! AS I'M SURE YOU KNOW, MY NAME IS-"
The entire percussion section: "Oh, shut up Jordan!"
finally decided to come back to this idea after losing the bass track and played around with it a bit (and fell in love with the garageband drummer)
what do yall think? I'm planning on putting a noisy-bendy-ish guitar line over the main riff and maybe just leaving the 'verses' to be drums and bass
OH IDK IF I MENTIONED BUT I TRADED IN MY OLD BASS AND GOT A 5 STRING
ITS AWESOME
It's also a standard scale so i have to re-form all my muscle memory to account for the wider fret spacing. But that's ok, because i kind of need to start learning from scratch anyway, because I've ended up forming a lot of bad habits from playing without an amp for so long. I pick too hard and it slows me down, causes a ton of ugly noise, and just makes everything harder in general. I have to fix that.
Uhhh I've almost mastered Straight To Video, it's just the bridge that needs work, cuz that's the best/worst part, HA. Maybe I'll upload a cover when I'm good n ready.
hmm? i can spend $670ish on a pete wentz signature bass, a coffin case, an 18 pack of picks, and a distortion pedal or $670ish on a duff mckagan bass? i choose the first option
I was fuckin holding my bass and someone from my sections bass while waiting for him to grab his folder before the symphony concert tonight my conductor walks past and asks completely seriously 'double fisting it tonight?' THIS MAN HAS A DOCTORATE
