Bruce always behaves so cute and innocent in tumblr posts, like just a strict but sweet father who loves kids and spends most of his time being a stay at home dad for his half a dozen children. Then I look for content of Red Hood on YouTube and the first thing I see is a video essay about Batman slitting Jason's throat

yeah. in canon, and (in my opinion) especially towards jason he is just straight up (physically) abusive. hes kinda neglectful too. like he rarely even acknowledges most of his kids as his kids.

buuut all of that's pretty bs and just shitty writing. bats slit each others throats, jason spotted at gay nightclub, fork in kitchen etc etc etc

My take on the Bat discourse.

I wasn't gonna say anything, but since I've been mulling it over for a few days, I might as well since everyone and their mom has put their two-cents in.

I don't think Lovestruck should have had a female Bat plot twist.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have no issue with another female love interest, but I was expecting a male Bat route, and initially, I was somewhat taken aback, and a bit dissapointed to find out Bat wouldn't be a male. That quickly dissolved into me being excited, because holy hell Juliette sprite pretty and GIRLS, but for the straight folk in the fandom, they won't get that. Anyone who just has no interest in female routes, won't get to enjoy the male Bat they were expecting, and their disappointment is permanent.

If Bat was always presented as female- this wouldn't be a problem. No one would be dissapointed, because the straights would never had interest in playing a route with her to begin with, and us who like women would be like "yes pls this", and there wouldn't be a problem.

The problem isn't a female Bat- it's that some weren't expecting it, and became dissapointed.

While I'm glad for another female love interest, I just wish there wouldn't have been a twist so this whole discourse wouldn't have started.

So... I'm sure this is going to be an unpopular opinion but whatever here are my two cents on the 'Bat Discourse' as it were.

I'm disappointed.

Not in the fact that Bat is a woman and not a man, not in the fact that I feel "betrayed" by the use of he/him pronouns. Nope, whether a route is male or female doesn't really bother me, nor does the fact that Bat has "lied" about her pronouns, because if it's a good character it doesn't matter.  

No, my disappointment lies in the fandom. And both -- for lack of a better term -- "sides" of the fandom. Are the straight side allowed to be disappointed because they thought they may get a new male route? Absolutely. Are the lgbtq side allowed to be pleased that they have a strong female character? Hell yeah, heck they are -- my bisexual ass is after all.

Does that mean we can attack each other? No, And some of the comments I've seen... God what are some of you?? Five?? Do you think this is a school playground?? I mean, Lovestruck is classed as a 17+ game and some of the shit I've seen said FROM BOTH SIDES has been ridiculous and made me wonder if y'all are emotionally old enough to play the goddamn game. Yeah, you're allowed your opinions but do you have make them by saying shit like "omg lovestruck hates us now, they're not releasing anymore male routes =[" or "hahaha fuck the straights, Lovestruck belongs to us now" (both of these are actual comments I've seen, by the way).

This -- and honestly, a lot of discourse -- is making this fandom fucking toxic and unenjoyable. I dunno if it's because I'm an adult woman, but I just find this whole fucking thing exhausting. And I really hope I’m not the only one.
