Of course it won't be so easy, how this was expected. Lumiere definitely remember how short man tried to burn him alive (savage). Cogsworth will be too busy with organization a celebration in honor of the lifting of the curse to notice something suspicious. So Lumiere dicided to deal with it by himself, to protect Belle and Adam.
