Recently I watched Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil and absolutely adored it! Julie is so much like me and her journey resonated with me in such a specific way, so I wanted to draw my own special something to celebrate that! In this age of AI and such, being able to watch a show that celebrates human animation of every kind is so important, and the messages I took away are so powerful- ‘it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to exist’/‘a life of monotony is what kills creativity’/‘there is power in love of every kind’…. I could go on, but the show is amazing. I recommend everyone sees it if they’re in Disney Springs! 🥹
Golden’s outfit here is based on Julie’s, because I really resonated with her as I said, but there is one very special detail: the daisy. You might ask ‘Angie, why did you put a daisy there, there aren’t any in the show?’ And my answer is simple. Yesterday I went on the Keys of the Kingdom tour, and my tour guide told me a story that Walt himself told her, about a boy trying to give his mum the gift of daisies. He worked hard in the florist’s, she gave him seeds and he planted them, they began to bloom, but a storm came along and despite the boy trying everything he could, the flowers were destroyed. He gave what was left of them to his mother, who told him ‘it doesn’t matter that the flowers are destroyed, because the love and effort you put in is what counts.’ From Walt himself, those are some powerful words, and they pair up with this show beautifully, so I combined two wonderful memories in my design. 🥰
I’m a bit back and forth on how I feel about Maurice in the 2017 telling of the story. Over time I’ve actually quite softened to the portrayal, shifting from an inventor to a tinkerer. Making music boxes and potentially automatons is a great way to give more of a nod to the time period, while keeping him a mechanical craftsman(and a much steadier cash flow being able to sell a lot of product v potential prize money). Belle still serves that caregiving role and he is absent minded … but far far more grounded.
Where this grounding doesn’t work is when he returns to Villeneuve raving about a Beast in a castle. He hasn’t really done anything to be branded a ‘loon’ or earn the ‘crazy ol’ Maurice’ lines… he’s aging and a bit silly but he’s not as out there as his animated counterpart. (Who, while harmless, is a bit out there mentally). I think all they’d really need to fix this is a bit more of talking to himself or a scene where he randomly mentions something silly. Or to instead have the tavern react curious/concerned but still dismissive - this is new behavior but not believed.
Have you ever stopped and thought about how much the guests must’ve left behind? Everyone fled when the enchantress revealed herself and cursed the prince, but they were there for a ball and some likely intended to stay.
How many guest rooms have a trunk left in them partly or never opened? Personal items? Little things. Rooms half used or just touched left in an in between state.
Okay, guys! This is it! I read the latest update on Ratterrock last night, and I'm STILL thinking about it, so it's about time I said something about this comic...
I LOVE IT! From the first phrase to the last panel! 🤩 ✨
The story is so compelling and engaging; it makes you fidget with anticipation about what will happen next and when. Not a line of dialogue between the characters is wasted—it's witty and intriguing, painting each one's persona so vividly. I basically find myself going back and rereading chapters and scenes, and checking for any updates on the story the sooner it comes out!
And oh, don't get me started on the cast! The character dynamics are probably what got me the most! They each have such recognizable, layered personalities, with vivid quirks and distinct charm, which makes them SO easy to get attached to!
You can really feel all the inspiration, effort, and work that went into the art and the scenario to make Ratterrock such an amazing concept!
To the point where, after reading the latest chapter, I had a certain thought...
How would they best be reimagined as humans?
And, just like I did with The Great Mouse Detective—that was the spirit and inspiration for the Ratterrock comic—making an AU called 'Shadows Over London' for my 'AlterDisneyverse' concept, that's literally how I ended up wanting to create human counterparts for a Modern-day AU.
So, @bajingo and @suzie-guru, thank you for the excellent comic and the unexpected creative brainworm! 🥰 🙌
🎵 Oh, Radigan! Oh, Radigan! You're one of a kind! To Radigan! To Radigan! The world's greatest criminal mind! 🎶
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------This July marked the 40th anniversary of Disney’s cult classic 'The Great Mouse Detective', the film that became a foundation stone for the Disney Renaissance era! The movie was praised for blending mystery, humor, and expressive animation into a compact detective story with memorable characters.
From brilliant Basil of Baker Street, determined Olivia Flaversham, to the loyal Dr. Dawson, and the unforgettable presence of Professor Ratigan!
A criminal mastermind with elegance, ambition, and theatrical flair, Ratigan remains one of Disney’s most fascinating villains! And a top fave of mine! 💖 🐀
So, in celebration of the anniversary, I created this tribute art piece-which kinda took a while to finish, but better late than never!-presenting Ratigan’s human counterpart from my GMD AU 'Shadows Over London': the nefarious and brilliantly scheming crime lord, Pádraic Radigan, whose charm and genius are as extraordinary as those of the original—now enjoying an ode from his loyal thugs, who praise his brilliance!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------And here’s a bit of behind-the-scenes work on this one!🖌️
so i don't remember if ive ever shared this but an incredible consequence of reading Sherlock Holmes as a kid was me imagining them as even gayer than they are in canon.
so here's the deal, when i'd asked my mother what a "dressing gown" was, she explained to me that it was basically a bathrobe. so, my knowledge of bathrobes being 'clothes you put on your naked body after a shower as a comfortable alternative to a towel', my mind of course conjured Holmes and Watson walking around their flat in nothing other than a dressing gown on. like this:
and kid me went "huh, that's awfully intimate. theyre definitely SOME sort of great friends." I am honestly pretty ashamed to admit i only realized they actually wore normal clothes under their dressing gowns when i started searching for Sherlock Holmes fanart and saw people drawing it. oops.
Posting instructions for Beauty and the Beast Week 2026
Beauty and the Beast Week 2026 is just around the corner! The most important thing you need to know for posting to the event is to tag the @beauty-beast-week account within the body of your Tumblr post. Here's what else you need to know for posting your fanwork:
✨ When
Post your work on the day of the prompt you're using.
✨ Where
Post the work itself to AO3, Instagram, Tumblr, FFN, X, Bluesky, Wattpad, or wherever you post your stuff.
✨ How, on AO3
For fic and podfic, there's an AO3 collection named “beauty_beast_week_2026” set up for the event here. To add to the collection, you can either follow the link and click "post to collection," or you can post a new work on your own and search for "beauty_beast_week_2026" in the "collections" line. If you're having trouble, feel free to DM and we’ll walk you through it. Here's when to post to the collection:
Works for day 1: This is the only prompt that you can post to the collection ahead of time, because all the works in the collection are currently hidden. We will reveal the entire collection on August 24, so that's when any works posted to the collection before that date will go live. You can also just wait until August 24 to post a day 1 work.
Works for days 2-7: After August 24, for days 2-7, post on the designated posting day for your prompt.
✨ How, on Tumblr
Post a link to your work in a Tumblr post on your prompt’s day. Be sure your Tumblr post contains the following:
Which day and prompt your creation is for
Tag the @beauty-beast-week account within the body of the post itself by using the @ symbol, typing beauty-beast-week, and then selecting that account name from the autocomplete menu that appears. This is the only way to be sure we see your post so we can reblog it from this account and include it in our master list posts.
The event hashtag #batbweek and/or #batbweek 2026
Any other appropriate hashtags (characters, ship, NSFW and content warnings)
Optional: The event banner (save from the top of this post) or the day's banner (save from the bottom of this post)
✨ Remember!
Take a quick look at the full rules again. In summary, you need to have at least one Disney BatB character, all ships are allowed, no bashing others’ ships or characters, any rating or content is allowed, and no AI.
We’re happy to accept late entries! We understand that life happens, so just tag us when you’ve posted it and we’ll reblog it, even weeks later, though it may not make it into the master list post at the end of the event.
