Happy World Environment Day! 🌍🌹🐻

Since the first year Beauty and the Beast Week theme was plants and the second year theme was animals, I wanted to take this World Environment Day to celebrate the beautiful works of our many BatB Week participants! They've helped make our world a little bit more lovely with each creation they put out there.

While the event works didn't have to be explicitly about plants or animals, a lot of them did include those nature elements in them, so I encourage everyone to check out the 2024 plants master list and 2025 animals master list to take a look at what was created. Enjoy! 🌱🦋🌤️

I wasn't feeling well enough to come up with something for @beauty-beast-week Free Day, but I still wanted to share something that I thought was pretty cool.

Belle, Beast (and Chip!) reading the nominees for Best Animated Short at the 1992 Academy Awards.

As far as I know, Disney's original Beauty and the Beast is the only animated film to receive a Best Picture nomination, when there was no such category for animated films at the time.

I still believe it's part of the reason that category exists now.

Summary:

"Didn’t your romances ever talk about what happens after the hero and heroine get married? Did you honestly think that our relationship would be the same as it was when I wasn’t even human?”

“Would that be so bad?!" Belle cries out, her eyes wild.

Taken aback, he straightens up.

“I only mean – we disagreed, of course, and with the way things started of course we fought. But it was never like this, back then.”

The fight goes out of him, like a soap bubble finally succumbing to the laws of physics and popping. “What are we doing, Belle?” he asks, with a rough exhale. “We love each other. We shouldn’t be fighting – at least, not like this."

“Yes,” she says quietly. “You’re right. We love each other.”

Daffodil

Since the theme this week is "In the Garden," I thought what better time to make concept art for Heartflowers! Heartflowers is a hanahaki-inspired au originally created by @fizzy-dizz in which Adam is cursed to have roses growing inside him, and the rest of the staff are cursed with external plant growth that reflects their emotional state.

Lumiere's flowers are daffodils. Daffodils represent joy and vitality, and their cup-like shape imitates the look of Lumiere's candles in his canon design. However, the narcissus flower—named for the Greek legend of a man who fell in love with his own reflection in a lake and drowned—is also a kind of daffodil. Lumiere's flowers grow larger and cover more of his body (especially his face) when he acts selfishly and when he hides his true feelings behind a veil of optimism.
