Local Resident @ Batemans - Little Robin (scruff)! by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Robins moult in summer to replace old, worn-out feathers and grow a strong new coat for the cold months. During this time, they may look scruffy or bald, stay quiet, and hide in bushes.This little fella was in the bush in the NT cafe while i was having a cuppa i waited for 2 mins then he perched on the chair for me super little local wildlife resident!

The Lily Pond and Rose Garden @ Batemans NT Sussex by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: The rose garden and lily pond were designed by Kipling and his drawing is on display in the house. The Rose Garden was replanted in 2007, as the original plants were slowly dying. The new roses were sponsored by members of the public in memory of people who have worked at Bateman's, from Kipling's time to the present day, or to commemorate a special visit here.

The Apple Orchard @ Bateman's Sussex NT by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: As you enter the garden at Bateman’s through the orchard and vegetable garden you’re met with a sweeping view towards the house, sitting beautifully within the garden and the valley beyond. The orchard contains a mixture of apples, pears, plums, damsons, medlars, crab apples and a black mulberry tree. Along the west-facing wall is a cutting border, providing flowers and foliage for floral displays in the house and tea-room.

Batemans NT - Kipling's Kitchen Garden by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Gardens continually evolve, and our gardening team is always investigating new planting ideas, particularly in the Mulberry Garden which, although referred to as Kipling’s kitchen garden, was formal in design; the planting was largely a mixture of herbaceous perennials and shrubs with the clever use of fruit trees adding both structure and productive qualities to what was a very ornamental design.
