thoughts on: "You bow to no one"? i've seen a *bunch* of ppl say that this line is so tear-jerking, but for some reason i wasnt that moved when i watched that scene. i get that frodo and sam went to mount doom to destroy the ring, and by aragorn saying that line, it shows that idk, they/the hobbits deserve a shitload of respect and stuff but i dont really get the whole thing.. maybe i didnt pay enough attn during the movies lol. dont hold back on this, i'd love to hear everything u have to say!
OH MY FUCKING GOD. THIS LINE GETS ME EVERY TIME. (Also thanks for the ask <33)
This is what made me just start sobbing during Return of the King. Cause like it just shows everything they’ve gone through and everything they did to get there, and the fact that Aragorn tells them this at his coronation, in front of the elves and dwarves, everyone, it’s really signifying just how much they did.
Because Frodo and Sam destroyed the ring, therefore saving Middle-Earth. Merry and Pippin destroyed Isengard, helping lessen the forces of Mordor. Pippin saved Faramir, helping save a key element of Gondor’s future, and also just generally helped in Minas Tirith. And Merry helped Eowyn kill the Witch-King, and let’s face it, if he hadn’t died the story would have had a very different ending. All four of them accomplished some pretty incredible stuff.
So basically the four hobbits kinda ensured the continuation of civilization. And that’s why this line gets me. Because it’s four hobbits. Not men, dwarves, or elves, all of whom have been known as heroes in the past, but the least well known race in Middle-Earth. And yet somehow they pulled it off, and Aragorn acknowledging that in front of literally all the important people demonstrates the magnitude of what they did. He’s saying “without them none of us would be alive anymore” and that’s powerful.
Also, just the whole buildup in that scene, the emotions are already high and so that kinda just sets me off. I mean, they did it, and that’s just what this scene is all about. So yeah, catch me sobbing every time that line is said because ITS SO GOOD (I’m definitely not crying while writing about it. No way)
