I finally got caught up on “Pennyworth” (cuz of course I immediately PVRed the series as soon as I could even before its premiere) and I am LOOOVING IT!!!!
I love Alfred and Esme’s relationship, and judging by what her father told Alfred about her (that she’s always been fixated on the darkness in people) I can’t wait to see how Esme’s character develops. Alfred’s also a total 007 (yet edgier) bad-ass and I am loving him, Jack Bannon is playing him extraordinarily well.
I also love that Martha’s name is Kane, presumably as a reference to Bob Kane. I can’t wait to see her and Thomas meet and see how that relationship develops and leads them to make a Baby Bruce.
When you hear that Aarre Karén voices both Joker and Rabbit in Finnish dub.
I have to wait until tomorrow to watch the episode (you know, time difference) but I'M SO EXCITED BECAUSE LIL BRUCE, SELINA, PENGUIN, IVY AND ENIGMA, YOU KNOW?
Happy New Year
Welcoming the new year in Gotham was very similar to the celebrations held in New York, but with more crime, costumed freaks- well, that was debatable- and a man dressed like a bat running around throwing things at people and punching them and generally being bothersome. Sometimes, he had a kid with him that did more of the same. It really was inconvenient.
Months of planning and preparation lead up to the night of December 31st for all the Rogues, especially Jonathan Crane. He supposed Calender Man had something planned, but Jonathan wasn't very fond of that man and couldn't care less about anything he did. The hack. Of course, he did only work holidays, so the night was probably important to him. Not that it mattered.
When the clock struck twelve and the people in the Iceberg Lounge cheered and drank and kissed, a very fine mist fell upon them from the vents. Sneaking into the Penguin's territory had been risky. It took him more time- and close calls- than he cared to admit, but he managed to do it. It wasn't that Crane had any personal grudge against Cobblepot; he just found the oversized bird to be annoying. Of course, there was an astronomically large chance that Oswald would have a grudge against him after this little stunt. Oh well.
The part that Jonathan didn't expect was the catwalk he was hiding observing from dropping. He had no idea how it even happened. All he knew was that he was in the middle of a building full of armed and terrified thugs. Being immune to his own mixture left Crane without the same adrenaline high as everyone else. He was also very, very outgunned.
By the end of it, the good doctor was beaten. Bruised. Bloodies. He had taken many blows to... well, it felt like everywhere. His vision swam from time to time, the result of a series of particularly nasty head blows. There was blood running from a gunshot wound in his shoulder. More from somewhere on his skull. His nose was broken. His left arm was broken. Someone had cut his left leg. His already ragged Scarecrow clothing was hanging on his lanky frame in tatters that struggled not to fall off completely. He had escaped, but it took its toll on him. Worse than any of that, his mask and hat were gone. Those were difficult to come by and worse to make himself.
Jonathan ran as quickly as he could- it was nowhere near his usual speed- as soon as he had gotten out of the frenzied room. He had obtained all the data he needed, save for a follow up on the subjects. With that dosage, even the best of them shouldn't be coming down until midway through January first. He made it down the street without much incident by huddling in on himself, making himself look as small as possible, and walking carefully, looking drunk to anyone who didn't notice the blood. Everyone he encountered seemed too drunk to notice.
How far he had gotten before going down, Crane didn't know. It was decidedly less populated where he went down. The world had gone black for the good doctor Jonathan Crane before he even hit the ground.
Case Study: Orphanage 3
It looked as though the experiment would be a waste when the rest of the specimens began to drop like flies. The ones who slipped into nightmares never got the chance to wake up and the fighters were showing signs of fatigue. It was clear that their young bodies could not handle the constant stress of terror that had been placed upon them. It wasn't until the Batman showed up that things changed.
Whether or not it is a good thing that he was able to inoculate the children with an antidote remains unclear. The children have a higher chance of living into adulthood, meaning I can continue to watch them as they grow and observe how this experience impacts their later decisions in life. That the effect of the toxin was neutralized in the first place, however, changes the experiment.
Oh well.
Sadly, the Batman found and beat me within an inch of my life, which ended in my arrival in a padded cell in Arkham. I will be out to check up on my little subjects when I can. Until then, I plan to continue my ongoing torture experiments with my so-called colleagues. It is always a pleasure to watch them squirm.
Case Study: Orphanage 2
Unsurprisingly, the fear toxin proved too much for a few of the more... underdeveloped specimens. Of the remaining children, about half have fallen into fear-induced comas. They don't do much more than twitch occasionally. The other half is a slightly different story. Screams persist in those who's throats have yet to give from constant use. Increased violent behavior from those who fight rather than flee.
The idiots staff running the small facility began to call in doctors after their resident nurse failed to fix the subjects. As of yet, none of the doctors have found a way to reverse the effects of the toxin. No sign of interference from the Batman thus far.
