That would be Batreaux! (Or just Batty, because they're quite silly). They're a so-called demon of joy who feeds off of the happy emotions of people...which is what they tell people. In truth, they're a demon of deceit, traveling around and tricking people in order to feed with their deceptively cute and fun persona.

They're meant to emulate those little jester dolls, hence the plush body. Their mask is porcelain and emotes, and they sorta operate on toon physics? They'll do anything if its funny or for a good bit, but its all a grand lie to lower guards while they pull strings to orchestrate opportunities for deception. They're inherently a trickster and a liar, but a bad person...who can say?

Concept for a Zelda morality system (like Epic Mickey, Undertale, Infamous, or Fable): reverse Batreaux. In this hypothetical new Zelda game, on top of having a reincarnation of Batreaux who you need to collect gratitude crystals for, there's also a human right next door to him who actually WANTS to be a demon, he wants to be feared and terrorize the town. So you collect dark blue starbits for him called disgruntled crystals. Every single side quest has an alternative bad ending that you get from doing something bad, or permanently fucking up the quest in question (such as destroying the item they gave you, using it for yourself or pawning it off) if you get all bad questlines, this human turns into a demon and starts wandering around the town at night attacking everything they see, if you do all positive questlines you'll see Batreaux on the surface hanging out and drinking coffee, just vibing. If you do a neutral run they both just act mildly disappointed with you.

LINKTOBER Day 9 - Secret / Mystery

As a defender of Ghirahim, I'd be remiss if I didn't defend the demon race as a whole. I'm not saying they were all good, (Demise certainly wasn't) I'm simply saying that they are a species like any other of the setting and I'd prefer they were treated with the same nuance.

That being said, I really, really, really do not like the Batreaux side quest. The only unambiguously good demon in the franchise so far, and his storyline involves changing his very species just so he can fit in.

Which is absolutely horrifying if you stop and think about it. Link is turned into a hylian savior, and Batreaux is made to feel bad and hate pretty much everything about himself because of the actions of others.

Kukiel had the right idea. She always accepted Batreaux for who he is, and says that she misses his flappy bat wings when he becomes human. Speaking of which, how is Batreaux meant to participate in the Skyloftian community now? He's lost his wings, and he's never seen getting a loftwing. If it's not his demonic origins preventing him, it'd be that the goddess statue was used to make Imprisoned pancakes so can no longer be used for the coming of age ceremony.

Seriously, what message does this send? Some kinds of people are just bad and have to change everything about themselves, discarding their entire culture and identity just to be not treated like monsters?

Batreaux and kukiel because their relationship is the cutest thing ever I love them so much. Might finish this but for now it's just a sketch. ALSO BATREAUX IS SO FUN TO DRAW WTF (hate that I have to clarify this but this is not ship art if it wasn't obvious.)
