Why Ranger?
Hola.
Some people know it yet. I made my decision... yes, finally. My first real project is going to be a battle display of the 75th Ranger Regiment of the US Army. Loads of people tried to persuade me of starting a Navy Seals or a MarSoc battle display. I mean, after visiting the Gearzone it was certain for me starting any good project, but I wasn't sure which one to choose. I still was member of a team which had two camouflage patterns we had to wear when playing. When taking part in fun games the team wears Socom, which basically is very similar to the American AOR2 pattern. But Socom isn't a „real“ pattern worn by any military personnel. The leader of the team allowed me to wear AOR2 instead, which is a quite nice basis for starting a Seal battle display. But there was another hitch: I wasn't allowed to wear a Multicam JPC over it, because the leader wanted us to use green coloured plate carriers and vests. Okay, seems like there was no way to start a good project, but yes, I had another possibility. The team's second camouflage pattern used on milsim events is the German Flecktarn pattern. Of course, Bundeswehr soldiers can wear green vests, but I really didn't want to display a German soldier. On the one hand I don't like the Flecktarn pattern and on the other hand these soldiers just don't look that... hm cool. (No bad comments on that please, this is just my personal opinion.)
I really tried to find a solution because I wanted to stay in the team. All the same, I left my team because of personal trouble with one of the members. Okay, no problem, I'm still in contact with the other guys. Now I had much more possibilities. I had the impression that everyone tried to persuade me of displaying the same soldiers they were fan of. (Quite funny, because in the end I decided to start a battle display of the US Army Rangers and the Ranger battle displayers weren't that happy.)
You may ask why I finally have chosen the Rangers. It's obvious that this battle display (we're talking about the years 2009/2010/2011) wouldn't be easy. Starting with the plate carrier: I have to find an Eagle Industries MBAV or Plate Carrier in Ranger Green, which isn't even produced anymore. Some other parts of my future kit are hard to find as well: the Orc Industries Level 5 PCU, the Eagle Pouches, the Crye suit (yep, they stopped producing the Gen.2 pants and shirts this year)...
MegaMan, one of the Gearzone 2014 members, told me, that he had worked on his Ranger project for two years, beginning in 2011. Moreover, it's very cost-intensive and there is quite hard research work to do. „Well, I think I took the wrong project.“, I said to him. But he reassured me and said something like: „Of course, this isn't the easiest project, but if you like working on a project whose result is more than great... then this is fun.“ I don't remember our conversation very well, but he definitely didn't want to dismay me.
But why did I choose the Ranger battle display then? There are some major reasons.
Reason No. 1:
Have you seen some Ranger pics yet? I mean, they look great.

Reason No. 2:
Have you seen some Ranger battle displayers yet? The look great as well.
(Look at the guy on the right side, it's Mega displaying a Ranger. Mills wears German stuff.)
Reason No. 3:
Displaying a Seal is cool, of course, but it's too mainstream.
(My favorite Seal battle displayer in his Vanilla Seal Gunner outfit.)
(I don't know many girls with a nice gear or gear at all. Natalie belongs to this small group which is better equipped than most of the guys. She points out that her kit isn't necessarily a battle display, but nevertheless her gear is Seals oriented.)
Reason No. 4:
MarSoc is nice, but I don't have money for a Crye woodland suit. And yes, I want to wear Crye. I just love Crye.
Reason No. 5:
I tried out wearing Seals gear yet. I like the JPC, because it's a light-weight and comfortable plate carrier. But what really made me hating the carrier is a photo which was taken by one of the Gearzone members. (No, I won't post this here.) As you can see on most of my pictures, I'm not fat. But I'm a bit... horizontally challenged. And yes, I'm a woman, and I have a feminine figure. So wearing a JPC doesn't always look great. Sorry, it's kinda hard to explain. I think, men don't have this problem. However, I like the JPC, but I wasn't really satisfied with the fitting. And if I want to wear a bigger plate carrier anyway, I can also take the Eagle MBAV or the Eagle PC. You have to know that the fact wearing an MBAV at first made me quite unsure of starting a Ranger battle display.
(This is me in Navy Seals gear. I'm wearing a Multicam JPC over AOR2 clothes.)
Reason No. 6:
„If you don't want to be too mainstream, then why don't you think about displaying a Russian or Polish or whatever soldier?“
I like American soldiers. It's not because I have a preference for American politics, any American stuff or America itself. It's just because I really like the appearance and the gear of the US Army Rangers.
You may laugh about some reasons that made me starting the Ranger battle display. But hey... I'm still a girl and no one should be surprised that some of my decisions aren't reasonable.
Saludos,
Lola.
