Dark Elves in old Warhammer Fantasy are really such a guilty pleasure for me. I read through the (short) unit descriptions and I do like that the standard units, the ones in armour, are actually of mixed gender with no difference in training or recruitment; feels almost like an excuse for the cliche sexy daughters of Khaine (I do like both; but I always prefer if BOTH the armoured and the half-naked elves are of mixed gender, personally. WH40k does it better with the Wyches here imo)
I also think the "duell" feature of this game, which locks hero units in one-on-one fights is really cool.
This unit might be one of my more favourite ones
Here the game pulls through with the mixed gender recruitment; the voice lines are spoken by a woman and as you can see, both have basically the same armour design, just she has, what I think is meant to be boob plate? I dislike boobplate, but ironically here in these graphics it makes the more egalitarian lore recognisable. I also think it just underlines the point that both of them carry the siege weapon together. I love that bit.
The harpies with their batwigns were also cool, ghastly creatures, their voice acting was also quite something; felt totally on edge and with a high level of aggression
The black guard is up my alley too. Dark Elves with HALBERDS???? YESSSS I love halberds! So fucking much!
By now I'm through with the campaign and I genuinely like how it treated both the Orks and the Dark Elves with respect and that they were the centre of the narrative. Right before the final battle, you can also make a choice which will affect the end.
It wasn't really deep and the best game I ever played, but it was solid, fullfilled some guilty pleasures of mine and was funny too. So I'd say, it's worth giving a shot if you ever see it on sale on gog.
🇺🇸✨ Fun Fact: Union Rising – The Anthem That Was Written Overnight (…Or Was It?)
When people hear “Union Rising”, the official anthem of the New American Union (NUA), they usually think of grand stadium rallies in San Francisco or the defiant flyovers of repurposed National Guard jets during parades in New York. But few know that the iconic march — now taught in every school from Portland to Boston — was (allegedly) written in less than 12 hours.
🎼 A Song for a Fractured Nation
According to the most popular version of the story, Union Rising was commissioned in January 2030, just days after the Western Seaboard states formally announced their secession from the Federal Republic. The provisional government needed a unifying piece — something stirring enough to drown out the chaos of the breakaway and declare, in one voice: we are still America.
The job fell to Clara Reyes, a little-known music teacher from Sacramento who’d fled political persecution under the old regime. Legend has it, she locked herself in a church basement with a borrowed keyboard and a scratchy old trumpet — by dawn, Union Rising was born.
📜 But Did It Really Happen That Way?
Of course, not everyone buys the overnight miracle. Declassified NUA documents hint that the melody actually traces back to a protest chant first sung during the March for Fair Elections in Chicago, 2027. Some historians claim Reyes only formalized the tune and added orchestration — the bones of the anthem may have been echoing at street barricades long before it ever hit the official record.
🚩 A March, a Hymn, a Rallying Cry
Today, Union Rising is more than a song — it’s a statement. Its first stanza, “From broken coasts to city lights, the Union stands, the Union fights,” has been spray-painted on walls from Berkeley to Buffalo. Military parades in liberated zones blast it through loudspeakers alongside guitar riffs and sampled radio static — a reminder that in the New Union World, freedom isn’t just an idea. It’s an anthem people made when they had nothing left but their voices.
So next time you hear that brass intro rolling through a foggy San Francisco dawn, remember: revolutions don’t just write songs. Sometimes, songs write revolutions.
The addon for Mark of Chaos, "Battle March" is pretty nice. As said in a previous post, the Orks are written absolutely hilariously and so fun.
The Dark Elves are very cliche and stereotypical, but I admit, it's a total goth guilty pleasure for my bisexual ass. I'm just swooning over their looks and voice acting constantly.
I also like that the Dark Elf protagonist is a witch and she....actually gets what she wants? I'm not through yet, so something could still kick her ass, but so far she is the protag and she is winning. She even got her revenge with an epic battle between her and a high elf sorceress a top a ruined tower in the mountains
I do love that
Bonus mention:
A lore text in Battle March mentions a dark elf woman covered in scars who is a smith of highest skill. Yes? Please yes? It's kind of sad it's just a side mention in a short text, but I have pictures in my mind now and I'm a weak bisexual
Another thing I liked about the dark elves in Battle March was btw how they were written and voice acted; they had some genuine selfconfidence radiating from them, calm ego. I love that in characters, I know I'm on the "I love pathetic people" website, but I love competent, confident folks with a spine and oh god the sheer arrogance of the dark elven leaders was amazing to listen to.

A Solitary Reflection
[Ballista Roll-Out Music]
The dawn of battle...
Gentle calloused fingertips brushed a wily white-golden curl out of her face. In slumber on the nearby cot, she was safe for now, her generosity coloring the warrior's fair cheeks, only marred by the line of experience granted by a hungry icicle. The napkin that wrapped his long eaten pastry now furled into a paper flower, Thordemar laid it into the curl of Xenus's snoozing hand hand before turning to his nearby ranger friend. "Be well, friend," Vandeis murmured warmly, the every beaming grin shaping his stubbled face. Still thick in bandages, the ranger was set to rest the final battle out. Thordemar cast his mischievous friend a warning look with his eyes, silent in his gentle salute before he gathered his things and made leave to the hanger. Rolling the wheeled door closed, the platinum-haired Emberfell man's gaze lofted up to his machine, lips tightening with a roil of excitement. Quickly, he set to work on preparations. Five, six, seven bolts, hoisted into the armament bay, securing them to their compartment before moving on to start his control checks. He was far from sapped of strength, only the split down the side of his face telling of his recent fall. Tightening the cantilever, Thordemar's eyes caught his reflection in the nearby metal. His jaw slackened and his brows furrowed at the sight. A flash of heat flooded his chest, much like what anger often felt to the warrior, but something about it was different. "It makes you look...experienced." Her words echoed through his long ears in a ghostly sort of way. His anger was something different. It didn't choke his mind nor did it cloud his eyesight. There was...clarity, with an intense energy, excitement, desire- pushing him to move. What was this.....feeling? He turned his eyes away, platinum locks tossing over his shoulder like the sharp whip of a destrier's tail, swinging himself up into the seat. A pluck of a few buttons, the engine bellowed to life, the flange of it's loud throttle ringing through the hanger. Gloves on, goggles down, the warrior's lip canted to the side, pleased with the machine purring beneath him. "Experienced." Was it anger? It felt like it physically. The goosebumps were there, the tension sat in his thick joints, his ears pinned back with the slightest scrunch of his brows. But it was a different flavor. Smiling, a brawny hand reached out and drove back the clutch with a slam of his heel on the break, revving the engine in a deafening roar. "Get ready, scourge! The wrecking ball is here!" he hooted vociferously over the noise. It was passion.
