John didn't need to be told twice. He practically melted into Lemar's embrace.

They stayed on the couch. Lemar pulled away and looked deeply into John's eyes.

“C'mon… tell me what's wrong.”

John sighed. “I… uh… I'm trying to find the words.”

“It's okay, take your time.”

The other man nodded.

“I just… sometimes. I am at the pool. Back in New York. And I think of sinking… and never coming back for air.”

Lemar froze. His heart skipped a beat.

“John… What? No.”

“The hell you do!” Lemar snapped. John's eyes widened and his lips clammed up.

Lemar took a deep breath.

“John, you're sitting here. Talking about… suicide. About doing something irreversible that could leave a little boy fatherless. Just…” He rubbed his temple.

John looked down, like an embarrassed child caught misbehaving.

“I'm sorry?” He offered weakly. Lemar's stare softened.

“Jesus, John,” he cupped his face. “there's people that need you. Alive. I need you alive….”
