Reshiram and Kyruem have been separated, the void dragon driven back into the frigid caverns it calls home. Under the pressure of a second total defeat at the hands of the same teenager, Ghestis snapped, left little more than a gibbering vegetable. Colress has surrendered himself to the authorities, already enthusiastically negotiating a plea deal that will no doubt end with him a free man. The long and short of it? Team Plasma’s finished, for good this time. It certainly hasn’t been a clean or pretty affair and I arrived fashionably late to pull everyone’s collective rears out of the metaphorical fire, but as far as the authorities are concerned, this case is closed.
As for myself, I still have a personal matter to settle.
“N!!” I yell out for the moss haired man tending to his white dragon, the wind whipping their flowing locks atop this cliff-side outside the Giant Chasm.
Thankfully, Reshiram’s back on her feet and her own dragon again, but she’s obviously been worn out by everything she’s been through today. In contrast, Zekrom stands proudly by my side with his chest puffed up, unwilling to recognize the exhaustion he’s no doubt feeling after all the work he’s put in today. The scene’s the same as it was that day almost two years ago. The winner and loser were decided. The king here gracefully acknowledged as much himself.
And yet here I am, still hung up on a fight I supposedly won. Some hero I turned out to be.
I close the distance between us in a timely fashion, our twin dragons looming over our comparatively diminutive forms. “I was worried you were gonna take off again. Considering our history, can you really blame me?”
The ancient kings our dragons served caused the singular entity they once were to divide into three. Their conflict only brought about the suffering of people and Pokemon alike. Perhaps the legend of Unova’s founding wasn’t meant to propagate a conflict between champions of truth and ideals. Maybe we were supposed to take a different lesson from it.
Even when I’ve wanted nothing more to punch him in his smug face, there’s one thing I’ve never disagreed with N on. No matter how much of his life was manufactured as a part of Ghestis’ scheme, I know N loves Pokemon just as much as I do. I only wish it didn’t take me knocking some sense into him for him to realize people like us aren’t in the minority.
Zekrom gives me a low growl like a distant roll of thunder, prompting me to say what I need to. “...The truth that you’ve been looking for, did you find it?”
